EQ, Emotional Intelligence (EI), and Emotional Fitness®… What's the Difference?
This is one of the questions we hear most often from leaders, managers, coaches, entrepreneurs, and helping professionals.
One perspective that has shaped our work at the Emotional Fitness Academy® comes from the teachings of the Indigenous Medicine Wheel. While teachings vary among Indigenous Nations, many emphasize that wellness is interconnected through four dimensions:
🔴 Physical (PQ)
🟡 Mental (MQ)
⚫ Emotional (EQ)
⚪ Spiritual (SQ)
Each dimension influences the others, contributing to our overall well-being.
When we think about Emotional Quotient (EQ), we find it helpful to view it through two complementary dimensions.
Emotional Intelligence (EI) creates awareness.
It helps us better understand ourselves and others through self-awareness, empathy, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships.
Emotional Fitness® transforms awareness into action.
It develops the practical skills needed to communicate effectively, strengthen relationships, navigate difficult conversations, and build healthier, more positive workplace cultures.
At the Emotional Fitness Academy®, we facilitate experiential education and training on practical tools, founded by Warren Redman, such as Power Listening, Learning Is Earning, Group Dialogue, WorkScale, and Storytelling to help individuals, teams, and organizations put these skills into practice every day.
Our perspective is simple:
Emotional Intelligence creates awareness.
Emotional Fitness® transforms awareness into action.
Awareness is the beginning.
Practice creates transformation.
💬 What are your thoughts?
How would you describe the difference between Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Fitness®? We'd love to hear your perspective and continue the conversation.
