Have you ever been forced to s l o w d o w n ?
My 2 almost 3 year old broke her leg
Maybe "forced" isn't the right word since it was such an easy transition to let go of work and take care of her. But I also would have never done it if she didn't break her leg.
This "slow" period also makes me curious about how we define "slow" and "busy". My decision to stay home isn't necessarily less busy or slower than being at work (probably busier even!), but I guess it's making my decisions more intentional? Or maybe my actions are "slower" since I am sharing them with a toddler? Like, when we go for a walk, I'll stop to point out a rabbit or bird.
No matter what words are used, I am grateful for this time. And weather!!!! 🌞💕😍🌞

I hear today is day, and I'm so glad that people are openly talking about mental health. I am also happy to see/read about everybody's mental health tools (to pick up some for myself!).
Since I work in the fitness field, there is also plenty of 'exercise is good for mental health, get moving' type stuff. While that is very true, I believe there's another side of the story where exercise could harm someone's mental health if used as a weapon.
I say this because I don't want to be oblivious to the fact that exercising, in the conventional way, for some people just doesn't feel good. And they shouldn't be blamed for that.
So, this mental health day and every other day, listen to your body. If it causes more stress/anxiety/depression to exercise, then focus on just moving, activities, or active living.

A little while ago, I took a class on chronic disease management and exercise, where I got to learn about current research findings in cancer and exercise!
Then I asked if I could create a document to pass out to my participants using what I learned in this class, and the response was, "Yes, please!". So here it is!
The information comes from a professor and Canada Research Chair of Physical Activity and Cancer, and is a very short version of what is going on in exercise and cancer research.
Enjoy!
