Congratulations to Alex Ready!

We’re proud to share that Alex has been selected to play in the Northwestern Polytechnic Senior Boys Basketball All-Star Game! The game will take place next Friday, March 27th at 8:00 PM at the NWP Gym.

We encourage all students to come out and show their support for our fellow Ram in person. If you’re unable to attend, the game will also be live streamed.

Provincials Recap

From March 4–7, our Senior Boys team traveled to Langley to compete at Provincials. Entering the tournament as the 15th seed, we opened against the #2 seed, Daaxiigan Sk'adaa Nee Thunderbirds. While it was a tough loss, it was an incredible learning experience for our group.

In Game 2, we faced the Southpointe Academy Titans (7 seed), followed by Game 3 against the Campbell River Christian Cougars (11 seed), where MCS earned a great win. We wrapped up the tournament against the Ebenezer Timbers (13 seed), finishing with a 1–3 record and placing 14th out of 16 teams.

A standout performance came from Alex Ready, who, as a Grade 10, was named the 2nd highest scorer in 1A with 111 points and ranked 7th overall across all classifications (1A–4A). An impressive accomplishment and a testament to his hard work and skill.

The experience as a whole was unforgettable. From team dinners to high-level competition, and the chance to meet athletes from across BC—including getting to cheer on athletes from Fort St John in 4A.

One of the biggest highlights of the tournament was watching the incredible Cinderella run by Similkameen, who entered as the 10th seed and battled their way to win the 1A Senior Boys Provincial Championship. Their journey was inspiring and a great reminder of what’s possible.

Off the court, the team had even more opportunities to bond. Staying together in one house made for a memorable experience. The team enjoyed every moment whether it was arcade games, go-kart racing, or Nintendo battles.

Moments like these are what it’s all about. As a small school in Northern BC, simply qualifying for Provincials is a major accomplishment. Geographic challenges limit our opportunities to compete against southern teams, especially during the winter basketball season when travel through mountain passes can be difficult and costly. Unlike many southern schools, we don’t have the same ability to play games every week or weekend.

That’s why we are incredibly proud of our players not just for their performance, but for how they’ve grown together as a team.

𝐌𝐂𝐒 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝟏𝐀 𝐁𝐨𝐲𝐬 – 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭. 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲
Last weekend, MCS hosted the Senior 1A Boys Basketball Zones and what unfolded was something our school community will never forget.

We entered the tournament a little battered. Alex Ready was playing through a bone chip injury to his right hand suffered during regionals. Seeded 4th, we opened against Northside and earned the win to advance to the semifinals.

Waiting for us was Cedars Christian the 1st seed and ranked 8th in the province. In one of the most exciting games of the tournament, our boys battled to a 57–54 victory and advanced to the championship game.

In the final against LDSS, the intensity was high from start to finish. With just 20 seconds remaining, our only Grade 12 player, Chad Chaplin, went down — later diagnosed with a partial tear of his Achilles. Despite the heartbreak, the boys fought until the final buzzer, falling just short 68–72.

With one final opportunity to qualify for Provincials, we faced Chetwynd. Down a starter. Down our only senior. Facing a veteran team loaded with Grade 12s.

And our boys responded.

With four Grade 11s and three Grade 10s, they played with relentless effort and belief, earning a decisive 72–56 victory to secure our first trip to Provincials in 14 years.

This weekend also highlighted some outstanding individual performances:

These honors reflect not just talent, but leadership, toughness, and heart.

Thank you to all the supporters, player parents, and visiting teams who packed the gym and created an incredible atmosphere throughout the weekend.

A special thank you to: The girls basketball team and Crystal Crantz for leading the way with the concession. Mrs. Keber for preparing an outstanding banquet meal. Pastor David Hildebrand of Creekside Fellowship Church for sharing the gospel and praying for all the teams. And of course to Telford Burrell and Justin Ready for their tireless coaching, organization, and commitment to these young men.

It truly takes a community.

We also want to recognize the Tumbler Ridge Kodiaks for competing with strength in the face of adversity and tragedy. These young athletes showed tremendous character, holding their heads high all weekend.

They are the real stars of this tournament. Our only wish is that we were traveling to Provincials together.

Today we celebrated with a pep rally as we prepare to send our boys to Langley. They carry with them not just wins and awards, but the pride of an entire school and community. Enjoy this video highlighting some moments from the last few seasons.

🏀 Championship Game Day

The MCS Rams are headed to the Championship Game against the LDSS Lakers today at 10:45 AM. The boys are playing for the 1A Senior Boys Zones title and a spot at Provincials — and they’ve earned it.

After an intense semifinal battle, the Rams (4 seed) knocked off Cedars (1 seed) to punch their ticket to the final. Huge thank you to Ms. Molly Short for capturing the incredible closing moments of that win.

Let’s bring the energy and support the boys as they compete for the championship. Go Rams!

1A Senior Boys Zones Kicks Off Tomorrow!

The excitement begins tomorrow as the 1A Senior Boys teams battle it out for a chance to earn their spot at Provincials!

📍 All games will be played at MCS Omega Campus.

Each team has been working hard all season and now it’s time to leave it all on the court. Make sure to check the schedule for game times and come out to cheer them on!

MCS grieves alongside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and all of the students, staff, and families affected. We pray that God draws near to them and surrounds them with comfort and peace during this difficult time.

The TRSS Kodiaks hold a special place in our hearts. Over the years, we have shared a close bond travelling together, cheering one another on, and building lasting memories. Just last weekend, we attended regional qualifiers together, where Tumbler Ridge stayed and led our cheering section in chants and encouragement.

Those moments of unity and friendship remain at the forefront of our minds.

🏀 1A Senior Boys Basketball Zones Are Almost Here🏀

We’re proud to be hosting the 1A Senior Boys Basketball Zone Tournament from Thursday, February 19 to Saturday, February 21. Games tip off at 2:00 PM on Thursday, with competitive matchups and a great atmosphere throughout the tournament.

Baked goods will be available for purchase during the games. If you’re interested in helping out, please contact Justin Ready or Telford Burrell.

We look forward to hosting a great tournament and appreciate everyone’s support!

🏐 Volleyball Season Wrap-Up!
Volleyball season has come to an end! To celebrate, we once again hosted a game between our Girls and Boys volleyball teams. For the second year in a row, the girls take the bragging rights! Way to go, girls! Better luck next year, boys!

🏐 GOLD FOR OUR GIRLS!

The girls volleyball team competed at the DCSS tournament this past weekend and brought home GOLD! The team worked their hearts out and their effort definitely paid off.

A huge shout-out to our Players of the Tournament, Jacklyne Rempel and Ashley Price!

But honestly… the best part of the weekend? The three Hythe players who showed up to our gold-medal game and cheered louder than any parent or player in the gym! 🎉 They started cheers, stomped, clapped, and did everything in between to help push us to victory.
