Speed Skating used to take place just steps from Central School in Dawson Creek. Did you also know that we are the oldest speed skating club in BC dating back to 1955

In the 60's locals raced on an outdoor oval near the school — cold air, sharp blades, and snowbanks all around.

The Dawson Creek Speed Skating Club skate and take part in dryland activities on the traditional lands of the Treaty 8 territory, the ancestralhomeoftheBeaver, Cree, Saulteau, Sicannie, andSlavey First Nations. We respect and acknowledge the Indigenous peoples of this land, known as Treaty 8, and thank them for allowing us to live, learn and manage our association on their territory.

Wishing our very own skater, Naomi all the best as an exchange student in FRANCE 🇫🇷!! Can't wait to see all the adventures

Rotary was given a presentation from our newest, outgoing exchange student, Naomi, which outlined life in Canada, and her hometown of Dawson Creek. She'll share this with other exchange students she meets, and her hosts for the next year in ...drumroll please...FRANCE. As trivia, Rotarians schooled her in the fact that the shortest distance from the Atlantic shore of Canada to France is less than one would guess, and that the reciprocal distance from mainland France to Canada...is not the same! If you know why...feel free to answer in the comments! Where is the incoming exchange student coming from? Well...that's another post, stay tuned!
