Well winter is here and soon we will be building this seasons oval. This is a three week process. Then laying out all the dots and lines to make it competition ready.
Once again this is of course a Dawson creek speedskating club built and operated facility. The city of Dawson creek helps us out with water for the track but does not operate or control the facility.
So to the public we like to see folks use but not abuse the ice, as all the maintenance costs are born solely by our club. Anyone damaging the ice or buildings will be prosecuted so that we can recoup repair costs.
So if you value the facility and like to be able to use the ice, then respect the ice, we really don’t want to go all legal on folks so be on good behaviour. If you want to see a big high quality outdoor ice surface we need the public to have access to then support us by not damaging the ice.
We are a small club and funds are limited, if it becomes too expensive to maintain we may have to curtail oval making for ever. And then the public loses, I have had the pleasure of seeing moms out with they’re young children in mornings helping them learn to skate, it’s a skating for free concept which I totally love, it gives us a chance to not only better out club but make life better and cheaper for folks who can’t afford to spend money on public skating, or organized sport.
Ice practices happen after school and a couple of evenings. Actual times will be posted, these practices are for club members and invited guests only due to the insurance policy.
So here’s a return to a fully operational oval in quite some time.
