Dartmouth Crusaders Swim Club

Dartmouth Crusaders Swim Club A competitive swim club operating in Dartmouth since 1970. Swimming out of the Zatsman Sportsplex in Dartmouth, NS. on academic/athletic scholarships.

We have training programs for children 6 years and older. The Dartmouth Crusaders Swim Club is a competitive club with about 75 swimmers and building, including members as young as age 6 and alumni returning from varsity training across the country. The Dartmouth Crusaders Swim Club formed in the summer of 1970 in the Old Dartmouth YMCA building and has been based at the Dartmouth/Zatzman Sportsplex since 1982. Our swimmers are supported by a talented coaching staff and a willing group of parent volunteers. Our head coach, Michelle Wilson, is a Level IV coach with experience at the Canadian Junior and National Level. Crusaders swimmers develop discipline and learn the importance of setting personal goals. They develop friendships that last a lifetime. When swimmers graduate from the club, they have a moment to 'have their say' to reflect on their swimming experience and what it has meant in their life. The Crusaders have produced three Olympians: Marie Moore, Andrew Haley, and Coach Bill Greenlaw. Haley won a bronze medal at the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta. In 1997 the club placed a section of four tiles in the Sportsplex Hall of Fame to honour these achievements. Many Crusader graduates have gone on to university in Canada on academic scholarship and to the U.S. The Crusaders have placed seven swimmers and a head coach on the 2005 Canada Games Team; three swimmers on the 2009 Canada Games Team and five swimmers plus an Assistant Coach and three triathletes on the 2013 Canada Games Team. The Dartmouth Crusaders Swim Club, with its instantly recognizable blue and gold colors, is an institution in Dartmouth. Hundreds of families have seen children and grandchildren graduate from our ranks.

That's a wrap - we closed out August with our final Bell lake swim before stepping into the next season! A little windy, a little wavey, as everyone took on the challenge of our timed round the lake swim. It was fun to see everyone build their skills over the summer and all are set now to branch out to try our local open water races and to stretch that event experience to other races beyond our borders.
A big thankyou to lifeguards Jack, Mia and Jenna who helped to make sure the swimmers our swimmers were safe. Thanks to all the swimmers and parents who were able to support the program. And a big thankyou to Abenaki Aquatic Club who partnered with us so that we could use their docks as our start point for each practice.
We look forward to buliding the program up in 2027.
See you at the lake.
