Them. đź’š

The people behind so much of what makes Abenaki special. The people we simply couldn’t do it without.

They coach. They teach. They lifeguard. They lead. They clean up, fix things, solve problems, show up early, stay late and somehow find time to be there for our kids in all the moments that matter.

But what makes them truly special goes far beyond the jobs they do. They are mentors, role models, teammates and, most importantly, friends.

These are our future leaders. They are the engineers, nurses, doctors, educators, artists, entrepreneurs and community builders of tomorrow. And if this is the generation we are sending out into the world, then we know the future is in very good hands.

Our kids are lucky to have grown up alongside them. Lucky to have learned from them. Lucky to have been encouraged by them. And lucky to call so many of them friends.

There simply aren’t enough words to celebrate this group in the way they deserve. They have given so much of themselves to Abenaki, and their impact will reach far beyond the summers they’ve spent here.

To our staff: thank you for being the heart of this place. We are so proud of you, so grateful for you, and so excited to see where life takes you (but we hope it’s Abenaki for as long as possible)

Once Abenaki, always Abenaki. đź’š

A CALL TO OUR ABENAKI COMMUNITY & NEIGHBOURS

We are profoundly saddened and deeply disappointed to share that Abenaki was the target of a break/enter + vandalism last night, between approximately 11:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m.

Doors were kicked in, sheds were broken into, and interior doors were damaged. Thankfully, the physical damage was relatively minimal, but the sense of violation and disappointment is indescribable.

This is NOT OK, neighbours.

Abenaki is more than a property, it is a community, a place where people gather, make memories, and take pride in being part of something together.

We are asking our neighbours and members to please think back to anything you may have seen or heard during those hours. If you noticed suspicious individuals, vehicles, or activity, please contact Halifax Police and/or Abenaki.

We apologize that we can only share a limited number of photos at this time. We have valuable additional video camera footage in police custody which will aid in identifying the suspects and we are doing everything possible to protect the integrity of the investigation. Despite attempts to damage cameras around the property, we were able to capture footage of all individuals involved.

We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour, and we are committed to working with police and pursuing this matter fully.

To our Abenaki community and neighbours, thank you for looking out for us and for one another. We will come together, we will clean up, and we will move forward but we will not ignore what happened.

đź’š Thank you for standing with Abenaki.

🏆 Congratulations to Halifax Professional Fire Fighter Jack McDonald — 2026 Canadian Masters Sprint Kayak Champion! 🥇🚒

A huge congratulations to Jack McDonald on capturing the 2026 Canadian Masters Sprint Kayak Championship!

Jack didn’t just take home the title — he also set a new Canadian Masters record, stopping the clock at an incredible 1:50.973! 🇨🇦🥇

This marks the third year in a row that a Halifax Professional Fire Fighter has won the Canadian Masters title, something we’re incredibly proud of.

The paddling community runs deep here in Halifax. Our lakes, clubs and generations of paddlers have made this area one of the strongest paddling communities in the country, and many of our members have deep ties to that tradition.

Jack continues that proud connection between Halifax’s paddling community and the Halifax Professional Fire Fighters.

Congratulations, Jack — Canadian Champion and Canadian record holder! We couldn’t be more proud! 🔥🥇

Until Next Summer, Abenaki. đź’š

It’s a bittersweet farewell.
Because summers at Abenaki are about so much more than swimming, paddling, basketball, canteen treats and long days at the lake.

They’re about belonging.
You only have to look back through our posts to see it. The little moments, the big moments, the laughter, the friendships, the growth, the chaos, the celebrations, the rainy days and the beautiful ones.

Was it perfect? Probably not. But it was perfect for us.

To our staff, THANK YOU.
You gave this summer everything you had. You showed up, you taught, you coached, you cleaned, you lifeguarded, you served food, you refereed games, you listened to kids, you solved problems and you made this place run.
But more importantly, you made an impact.

To our families, THANK YOU for showing up.
For volunteering. For cheering. For bringing the snacks. For helping when something needed doing. For sitting on the dock, watching from the sidelines and becoming part of the wonderfully imperfect community that makes Abenaki what it is.

And to our kids and athletes, You made us proud.
We hope when you think about this summer, you remember the things that really matter.
Running barefoot across the grass.
Cannonballs into the deep end.
Sand between your toes.
Endless games of basketball.
Rainy-day movies.
Treats from the canteen.
Laughing until your stomach hurts.
Finding your people.
Trying something new.
Getting a little stronger.
And, of course, time on the water.

We hope you found joy here. We hope you felt like you belonged.
We hope you made a friend you’ll still know years from now.

And we hope that somewhere down the road, when you smell sunscreen or hear the splash of someone jumping into a lake, you’ll remember your summers at Abenaki.
Because that's the magic of this place.

The summer ends. The gates close. The boats come off the water.
But the memories? Those stay.

So, Abenaki family… thank you for another beautiful summer.
Until we meet again next summer on Bell Lake.
One Club. One Lake. One Family.
