Today, August 15, 2026, Dragon Martial Arts Academy - Creston had several students successfully test for and receive their next belt ranks. Congratulations to all!
Of particular significance, today we welcomed our newest member to the rank of Black Belt, Joshua Weaver!
Over the past several years, Josh has competed in multiple tournaments throughout BC and Alberta, consistently bringing home medals in both Sparring and Patterns in highly competitive divisions.
Most recently, in July 2026, Josh competed in the Tae Kwon-Do International World Cup held in Lethbridge, AB, coming home with wins in every category he entered.
- Silver medal in Patterns
- Silver medal in Continuous Sparring &
- Bronze medal in Point Sparring
Josh was also part of DMA Creston's 4 person team who won Silver in the Team Patterns competition.
Of special note: instead of solely focusing on himself, Josh did all this, while also volunteering hours of his time that weekend to assist with officiating in the junior divisions of the tournament to support the next generation of students as well.
The Black Belt exam is a physically demanding culmination of all the years of training which came before. A black belt is not just a physical achievement, but something you become as a person. In the years since DMA Creston opened its doors in January 2020, Josh is only the 2nd person to persevere through the hours of training required to reach this milestone. In reaching this goal, he has shown not just great physical skills, but also the qualities of a great person who will go on to make a positive impact on the world.
We're all very proud of you!
Special thanks also go out to Mr. Josh Mack and Mr. James Langille from Trail Martial Arts for their assistance with today's grading.
