October is breast cancer awareness month. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancers). It is the 2nd leading cause of death from cancer in Canadian women. Breast cancer can also occur in men, but it is not common. It is estimated that in 2024, 30,500 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer (approximately 1 in 8). Through screening, more than 80% of breast cancers are diagnosed at an early stage, for which the 5-year survival rate ranges from 93% to nearly 100%. Book your mammogram or speak to your physician about screening today!
