Town of Comox Closing Facilities Until Further Notice

Comox, BC – In a coordinated effort with the Comox Valley Regional District and neighbouring municipalities, the Town of Comox is taking precautionary measures aligning with the Public Health Agency of Canada and the BC Ministry of Health in their efforts to contain the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Town of Comox Updates:
•The Comox Community Centre will be closing to the public at 3:00 p.m. today.
•Spring break camps organized by the Comox Community Centre will be cancelled after today’s camps. Staff will be available until 5:00 p.m. today in order for parents to pick up their children.
•The Comox Fire Hall will remain open for service; however, the facility is now closed to the public.
•Comox Town Hall, the Finance and the Public Works buildings will remain open for service; however, the facilities will be closed to the public effective 4:30 p.m. today.

“The health and wellness of our residents and staff are our top priority, and by taking these precautionary measures based on science, we are doing our part to manage the spread of COVID-19,” says Mayor Russ Arnott. “We understand the impact this will have on families and our citizens during spring break. We will continue to closely monitor this evolving situation t o ensure the communication of any new information as it becomes available.”

Notice from the City of Courtenay regarding recreation centers:
As a result of the global Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the City of Courtenay is closing all City recreation and cultural facilities at 3 pm today [March 16 2020].

All programs are cancelled (Spring Break Daycamps today will end at their regularly scheduled time of 4 pm.) All facility rentals are also cancelled until further notice. The City of Courtenay will contact those with upcoming rental agreements.
This closure includes:
Lewis Centre
Florence Filberg Centre
Native Sons Hall
The LINC Youth Centre
Sid Williams Theatre
Courtenay and District Museum and Palaeontology Centre
Comox Valley Art Gallery
All City Outbuildings: Lewis Park (Tsolum and Salish), Bill Moore Park including Lawn Bowling Building, and Valley View Park
Sports field bookings – avoid crowds as per current provincial directions
All park washrooms and outdoor washroom at Sid Williams Theatre Plaza

“We are of course deeply concerned by the impact of COVID-19 and aware of the critical role our community will play in slowing the spread of this virus during this unprecedented crisis,” said Courtenay Mayor Bob Wells.

“We ask each and every one of you to do your part. Stay home. Save lives. Help reduce the strain on our health care system, and protect our first responders, our seniors and other vulnerable populations. Flatten the curve, and only go out for essential trips.”

The City of Courtenay is taking these measures in support of the Public Health Agency of Canada and the BC Ministry of Health and their efforts to contain the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

I've received the T-Shirts and Hoodies from Vancouver. I'm expecting the Hats on Monday. I've ordered some extras of everything if you didn't get your order to me in on time so please come down to purchase one if you'd like. They will be available for pick up at the following times

Monday December 17th - Comox Rec Center from 5:00-6:00
Tuesday December 18th - Courtenay Rec Center from 5:00-6:00

If these times don't work for you please let me know and I'll try and arrange another option.

Dear Referees, Coaches and Athletes,

(The club will pay your fees if you can referee at the Spring Parksville Tournament! Let Richard know if you're interested in carpooling. There's a couple seats available in our vehicle.)

Our next referee certification and refresher seminar is scheduled for December 9 (Sat). Those wanting to referee at upcoming tournaments MUST attend a seminar on the new rules. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided. There will also be a seminar in Vancouver in January 2018.

Facilitator: Master John Kim
Date: December 9, 2017 (Sat)
Venue: Beban Park Centre (2300 Bowen Road), Nanaimo, BC
Time: 10:00AM to 6:00PM (including exam)
Registration Fee: $25-$50 (includes a light lunch)
Who should attend: those who want to become a referee as well as current referees certifying to the next Provincial class. Athletes and coaches wanting to learn the new rules should also attend. For coaches, this seminar will count toward your DC certification.

Registration is now open and will close on Dec. 4 at 11:59PM.

In this seminar we will review the latest kyorugi (sparring) rules and interpretations and practice specific scenarios. This seminar will be a great review for referees who have not refereed in the last year, to get up-to-date with all current changes and would like to referee at the upcoming tournaments.
