Still working on it daily!

Down another couple of pounds. I haven’t been able to wear these jeans in a couple of years and this is a new sweater I just finished knitting today in honor of being able to wear something smaller 😊

~ Motivation Monday ~

So I finally started my strength training today 😳

Yup, I’m a procrastinator! All this rain was starting to get to me and losing a bit of motivation to go out on long wet walks with Rosie, plus my knee is still hurting.

So it was a bit of a test to see what I could lift. I’ll go up slightly in the next upper body workout but the shoulders were a struggle and will keep at this weight until they feel strong enough to increase.

My shoulders have always been my weak point with 2 shoulder surgeries on the right and 1 surgery on the left.

1 arm rows 15lb - 3 sets of 10
Bent over row 35lbs - 3 sets of 10
Chest press 15lb - 3 sets of 10
Bicep curls - 3 sets of 10
Tri kickbacks - 3 sets of 10
Shoulder press - 3 sets of 10
Front raises 5lbs - 3 sets of 10
Lateral raises 5lb - 3 sets of 10

So everything was going great with my hour long power walks with Rosie everyday until my left knee started hurting!

Like what the F!

Pain radiating down my leg and into my ankle. Can’t bend my leg as my knee feels like the size of a soccer ball ⚽️

Went to my doctor on Thursday and had X-rays taken and waiting for the results.

Needless to say, Rosie and I did not go out for our hour long power walk today 😢

I am happy to say that since Rosie has come back into my life, I am down 10lbs.

The weight I posted on Monday was my current weight and still hope to lose 10 pounds over the next few months through weight training.

Well this was interesting!

I did my official weigh in yesterday and measurements and today I took Rosie to PetSmart to do a weight check for her.

I mentioned that her and I have been doing hour long power walks every day.

I’m down 5 pounds but for some reason Rosie is up 2 pounds 😳

Weight 153.4 pounds

Chest 41 1/4 inches
Waist 36
Tummy 38 1/4
Hips 37 1/2
Butt 38 1/4
R thigh 19 5/8
L thigh 18 7/8
R calf 12 7/8
L calf 12 7/8
R bicep 12
L bicep 11 1/2

Let’s see if I can move these numbers!

As promised, the workouts will start tomorrow!

I’ve been preparing since February 28th by going on hour long power walks everyday.

The first day or two were awful! Shortness of breath, excessive heart rate, nausea etc……..

It has slowly gotten better with a lower RHR and an average of 5-6k in 60 minutes.

It helps that I have an old friend that joins me everyday as she needs to also lose between 10-15 pounds……and her recall is getting better 🤣

Tomorrow will be a weigh in, measurements, cardio warmup and upper body workout.

Holy moly!

I’m 59 years old…..60 this year!

Just over a year ago I got really sick and almost died. Was in ICU for 5 days in Campbell River with the doctors trying to save my life.

Even though I fully recovered a few months later, I haven’t done anything physical in that whole time.

Kinda embarrassing since I owned a boxing gym in the past and then COVID happened and I lost my business in one day 😢

That triggered a deep depression and I started drinking way too much and gained a lot of weight.

10 months later I hired an amazing coach to help me lose weight and get me into fighting shape again. And boy did he do that!

We started in January of 2021 and by June I was probably in the best shape of my life. We worked out together 3x a week. I could barely bicep curl 15lbs and not even last a minute round on the heavy bag.

By the summer that year, I could last multiple 3 minute rounds and curl 25lbs.

Battle ropes, 200lb tire flipping, boxing, kickboxing…..you name it!

I started taking on private clients again and teaching bootcamp in my backyard 3 nights a week.

Fast forward a few months and my landlord put my house for sale, so I had to pivot again so I became a Lighthouse Keeper for the CCG.

I still worked out on a regular basis and with my work as a Lighthouse Keeper being very physical, I was able to maintain my fitness.

But that all changed when I got sick in November of 2023 and almost died!

My liver enzymes were through the roof. The doctors thought I would need a liver transplant asap but somehow I got through it.

When I was released from the hospital November 30th , I had to move in this my sister and her husband to recover. Bloodwork 2x a week for 2 months to monitor my recovery.

After I was finally cleared to go back to work, the CCG decided not to renew my contract due to my now nonexistent health issues.

Another deep depression ensued and last March I moved in with my father and his wife. It quickly turned into being full time caregivers for both of them and this past December, my dad passed away and my stepmom a few weeks later went into long term care due to her Alzheimer’s as I couldn’t take care of her on my own.

So what I’m trying to say is that I haven’t really done anything physical in over a year except for mowing and w**d whacking the yard and shoveling snow this winter and believe me, that leaves me breathless.

Starting next week, join me on my journey to get back into shape at my age.

I’ll share pictures and videos along the way but believe me, I’m embarrassed to show you photos of what I look like right now.

15lbs heavier than what I was a year ago before I got sick. Resting heart rate way too high and get tired bringing in a load of wood for the fireplace 😬

Gotta say I’m pretty fu***ng proud of myself!

The wood I made this gate out of has some sentimental value. When I had my first boxing gym……… ZHOOSH Fitness Garage, I had a feature wall in the bathroom with this wood.

It came from my dad’s wife’s mother’s house in kerrisdale……it was her old fence.

Can’t believe dad kept the wood after I closed that gym over 5 years ago 🖤

I finally have a Christmas tree 🎄

I’ve been beach combing for just the right sticks for the past few days, found the stump/base this morning……searched high and low for a piece of rebar……under the boathouse was where I found it 🤣

Finally cut and drilled everything this afternoon and just put it together……I’m very proud of myself 😊

I’m not doing any Christmas baking but will be making a goat cheese ball tomorrow and a tourterie pie for Christmas Eve dinner and a rack of lamb for Christmas dinner 😊

A little trip around the island and talking about renewables.

Reducing our carbon footprint

At one time, all lighthouses were run on diesel. And getting the diesel could be difficult. It either has to be sling opped in by helicopter or by a coast guard sea vessel. Due to the location of some of our lighthouses, diesel is still the only way.

Here on Entrance we have both!

Solar panels and the wind turbines energy get housed in the battery bank room and we use this energy to heat our homes, operate the lights, use the washer and dryer and heat our water…..basically for everything!

The diesel generators will only kick in if we run out of stored power.

We try not to let this happen as they are loud! And when I say loud, I mean if you stand outside the engine room, it sounds like a helicopter taking off!

Plus it stinks like hell.

So here’s to harnessing the power of the wind and sun ☀️ 🌬
