Puntledge River Way Courtenay Waterway Ride & Safety * Hydroelectric facilities can be dangerous.

For your safety, obey all posted signs, and avoid the hazard areas above and below Comox Lake Dam, Puntledge Diversion Dam and the Puntledge Powerhouse.
* Boaters in Comox Lake reservoir should be aware of shallow channels, exposed stumps and floating debris.
* Water releases may occur suddenly without warning downstream of the Puntledge River Diversion Dam. This increases currents and cre

ates hazards for recreational river users.
* If you hear a siren that means the water level is rising fast. Keep out of the river channel area.
* The waterway flows past the Fish hatchery where the river is gated, you will have to depart and walk around the gate.

The Puntledge River fishing times are generally from mid-March to June for juvenile salmon (Chinook, pink, coho, and chum) and mid-September to December 1 for adult salmon. Specific regulations for retention and limits for different species and areas within the Puntledge River should be checked at https://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/tidal-maree/a-s14-eng.html

Species and Seasons:
The best times for different salmon species to spawn include:
Chum and Coho: November-December.
Chinook: October-November.
Steelhead: February-March.

You'll need a valid BC Non-tidal Angling License which you can get online here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/sports-culture/recreation/fishing-hunting/fishing/recreational-freshwater-fishing-licence -Purchase
