Dear student,
Thanks for this morning’s practice together.
Remember this. We all have many people that reside between our ears…in our brain. We present certain people in certain situations all the time. We have happy beings. Angry beings. All kinds of beings for all kinds of situations. One of the most powerful people is the One who Judges… our actions and our thoughts and our emotions. Sometimes the guy just never lets up.
When that happens, he won’t even let us complete even the smallest movement such as putting one foot in front of the other. I don’t need to remind you of his taunts.
When I am speaking to you in such a firm voice as you have heard me speak to you, remember, I am speaking specifically to the One that Judges you so relentlessly, not the one who is constantly getting hassled by that mouthy guy.
When I am telling you not to apologize after every mistake you make, I am speaking to another being who resides between your ears, the One that Apologizes. When you have done nothing wrong, the One that Apologizes holds hands with the One that Judges and they double the amount of hassle you experience. When I tell you not to apologize, I am speaking to THAT being, not the one who is constantly getting hassled. So don’t get upset. My annoyance with the One who Judges and the One who Apologizes needlessly has nothing to do with the guy to whom I’m teaching tai chi.
It’s necessary to put things back in balance. The One that Judges and the One that Apologizes have been in power too long. They won’t even allow you to put one foot in front of the other without raising their voices.
And now they’re getting scared because the one who is getting hassled is starting to notice their braying, and starting to stand up to them.
Keep saying NO to them and put a foot forward no matter where it’s placement is. And the next and the next and the next foot forward. No more stopping and swearing at the one who is getting hassled all the time. Just put one foot forward and the next and sense the beginnings of a smile at every small victory.
And do a half hour a day.
Spread your wings and fly.
