Hockey communities help take care of their own and this guy is a big part of ours in the Comox Valley. 🏒

Matt is a talented player in the CVHL and a dedicated coach in minor hockey, who has made a positive impact on many lives both in and out of the local rinks. Now his family has been dealt a tough hand with his diagnosis of Stage 4 stomach cancer, and the battle ahead comes with a substantial financial impact outside of the physical and emotional toll.

Thank you to the Grizzlies, gaining back-to-back honours as our Tier 1 Sportsmanship champs. We didn't get a new photo this year, so we'll use the old one! But these guys combine speed and skill with good, clean hockey. They receive a $200 gift card from award sponsor Gladstone Brewing Co. to help celebrate the season as a team.

Thank you to the Seawolves, our Tier 3 Sportsmanship champions in their inaugural season in the league. This crew was a 'singles team' built out of individual registrations and they came together on and off the ice to play some clean, fun hockey each week. The squad receives a $200 credit towards a team get-together at award sponsor Church St. Taphouse for being a team that other teams love to play.

Congrats to the Goal Diggers, the CVHL's Tier 3 champions after posting a 3-1 win over the Flatliners in the final at the Sports Centre last night. Bryan Huntley notched the eventual winner halfway through the second period and Tanner Peakman drove play all night, notching primary assists on the team's final two goals.

The Goal Diggers are golden in Tier 3! Goalie Andrew Munger stood tall in net to fend off the late charge from the Flatliners and David Shepherd gave the team some much needed cushion with a snipe from the high slot for the 3-1 victory and the team’s first tier championship.

It's a Flatliners vs. Goal Diggers match-up in the first place final, as the Tier 3 playoffs wrap up Sunday night at the Sports Centre. While other tiers saw playoff chaos, these top two seeds survived some close semifinal games to face each other in the final. With two of their three regular season meetings ending in ties (3-3 and 1-1), it should be a good one.
