Over the last couple years, some friends and I have been working on this project on the Tlatlos Headwall west of Sayward.
This season we sent and called it Whirlwind. Its an 8 pitch 11+, fully bolted alpine route. Its mostly sustained at 10- climbing with the crux being closely bolted for 10+ A0.
The steepness of the hanging valley below gives this route a surprising exposure for the route length, and pulling a roof on pitch 6 is sure to get your heart-rate up!
The climbing is quite varied with face, slab, crack and overhang. You will need to stem, jam, layback and heel hook.
If you are up to it, you should give it a go in late spring!
From the logistical side, this project took:
15 worker days on the wall (6 work days)
13 worker days on the trail (7 work days)
130 hangers and anchors
2 destroyed static ropes
The cost for hardware and ropes was a little over $1000 split between 4 of us, with $100 being donated from Van Isle Climbing last year.
$100 from this batch of stickers will be marked for the next project on Tlatlos
