The Academy Of Martial Arts and Fitness

The Academy Of Martial Arts and Fitness After his first and last season at the pro level in Lacrosse, Bill retired and focused on a career as a Massage Therapist and Strength and Conditioning coach.

While still in massage therapy school in Toronto, Bill was working part time as security in night clubs. Being properly prepared for physical confrontations that happen in night clubs is what directed Bill to martial arts training. Still being competitive in nature, he went on to go into local martial arts competitions. Grappling, Thai Boxing and Pankration were what was available at the time. The

closest type of competition to a real life street fight is MMA, so that's what he wanted to do! Bill wanted to see if the things he was learning actually were applicable in a real confrontation. Finding MMA fights in the mid 2000's wasn't that easy, especially in Ontario. His first MMA fight was a amateur one night tournament in Layfayette, Indiana in Dan Severn's promotion. Bill had 3 fights with 3 wins that night and walked away as the LHW champ and a whopping $500. After a few years of trying to work full time and train and fight, Bill's record and performance was not what he thought it should be. Making a huge life decision, he sold most of his "stuff", put the rest in storage and went to Las Vegas to tryout for Wanderlei's Silva's fight team. Bill went to Vegas with 2 bags, training gear and some, not very much, money. No idea if he was going to make the team or not he stayed in a hotel for a couple nights while the tryouts were going on. When he found out he made the team he moved into Wanderlei's fighter house and trained the way a full time fighter should. After a 6 mth stint in Vegas Bill settled in Courtenay B.C. and is currently teaching and training at CV Fitness & MMA with guys he met at the tryouts in Las Vegas.
