Farming is in full swing right now but the Hay Barn crew managed a quick break to go canoeing 😊 we paddled the North Saskatchewan River from Saunders to Rocky Mountain House. It was an epic trip! Gus did great practicing balancing in a canoe, the kids did a fantastic job practicing their skills, we got to spend time with good friends, and ate some fantastic food, including pork chops cooked on rocks in the fire 🤩 and more s’mores than I’d like to mention!!

Gus Gus is spending lots of time with me in a canoe, this picture was from helping out with my kids school and their canoeing program. He’s still in puppy mode so he likes to move around a bunch, and he’s fallen in 3 times already 😂 but each time gets better, and he’s so used to jumping into the canoe that he jumped into one on saw horses at the shop today 😁

Here’s another refurbished canoe almost completed. We installed brand new gunwales, in a new style now in stock 😁 and then a set of seats, yoke, and thwart. The final touch is end caps and then it’s ready for paddling!!

Well it was time to don the white suit and mask and get some fiberglass seats built! These seats are a replacement set for last years 25’ canoe. The customer wanted a light canoe, but I went too light and one seat got a small crack. I’ve always felt it’s important to stand behind my product, so I’m replacing all six seats no charge with a stronger set to ensure many years of happy paddling.

A little mould making in progress today, this will be a bulkhead mould for small canoes. It will allow for the bulkheads to be a consistent shape for each build.

Gus-Gus is still growing! Well… lots of sleeping too!! He’s starting to show signs of retrieving so I’m excited to teach him to retrieve paddles!! There’s still too much snow for canoes but there’s warmer days coming!!

It’s been a slow month in the shop, mostly picking away at small projects to clear the to-do list, so I haven’t been taking many pictures. Here’s an update on the shop dog, Gus Gus, he’s getting bigger by the day! He’s playing lots and learning how to be a good boy. I’m hoping we can start learning to retrieve paddles soon 😁

Meet our newest addition to the crew!! This is Gus, and he can’t wait for warmer weather to learn how to retrieve paddles, but for now he’s happy sleeping by the fireplace 😊

I took a break from working on canoes to head down to Calgary for Remembrance Day. Got to spend the day with my army friends and with my Dad who inspired me to serve my country.
