Contrary to what most parents might believe the off-season is the biggest opportunity for growth in an athlete! In season training is mainly to develop a fitness base for those who did not train during the off-season or a maintenance tool for those who have trained all summer!
Playing games or continuously doing summer camps during the off-season doesn’t improve an athletes speed or performance. It just keeps them on the ice, away from training and unless they’ve had sufficient rest after the hockey season, it will probably have a negative impact on speed and performance!
Athletes seasonal breakdown
- Pre season training - July-August
