In 2026, CTOMS celebrates 20 years of active operations. Born from the 2002 loss of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan, founder Chris Kopp created CTOMS to honor the fallen through better medical preparation of combat soldiers.

Juno Beach. June 6, 1944.

The ramp drops. Cold Atlantic water rushes in. And a generation of young men — farm kids from Saskatchewan, factory workers from Montreal, fishermen from Nova Scotia — step forward to retake a continent.

If there’s one battle in history I would have wanted to fight in, it’s this one. Not because war is glorious — it isn’t. But because that cause, on that day, was the clearest thing a man could ever stand up for. Pure. Unambiguous. Righteous.

I think about them every year. The Royal Winnipeg Rifles. The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada. Boys who had never seen Europe until the morning they went to save it. By nightfall they had pushed further inland than any Allied force on any of the five beaches. They paid for every metre.

Somewhere in that magnificent chaos, a Canadian soldier punches a N**i, cracks open a bottle of Calvados, and passes it down the line. Nineteen years old. Soaking wet. Just changed the world before breakfast.

The Greatest Generation didn’t wonder what they were fighting for. They could see it. And they crossed an ocean to answer the question evil had asked — and they answered it with everything they had.

They fought their way into immortality.

Raise a glass today. It’s the least we owe them. 🥃

The International Technical Rescue Symposium (ITRS) remains the premier “by the people, for the people” gathering for serious rope technicians. Skip the corporate agenda and connect with dedicated practitioners, instructors, team leaders, and innovators who are just like you: a little obsessed with rope stuff.

Year after year, ITRS participants share rigorous field lessons, test data, and practical advances that actually move technical rescue and work at height forward.

This November 5–8, ITRS returns to Golden, Colorado (Denver Marriott West). If you live and breathe technical rescue, mountain or urban SAR, helicopter operations, swiftwater, collapse, or rope access, this is where you’ll find the people genuinely shaping the industry.

At Beal-PMI we’re proud to co-host once again with our friends at CMC Rescue. When the sharpest minds in the business gather to trade real-world solutions and challenge old assumptions, the entire community levels up.

Call for Papers is open now.
Have a strong case study with usable takeaways? New test results on systems or rope performance? A better way to rig, teach, or solve a recurring operational problem? Submit your proposal. This is one of the few forums where real field experience reaches the operators who need it most.

Many of you have been asking whether the Grimpday Classic will be open to the public.
The answer is yes 🙌

Only the Grimpday XX‑Treme will take place behind closed doors, as previously announced 🚫👀

As for the events and their locations, we will share all details the day before each challenge ⏳
👉 This helps us keep the element of surprise for the participants.

We can already confirm that all events will take place in or near Namur 🏙️
For this twentieth edition, it was important for us to return to our roots and stay close to the city and region that have always supported us ❤️💛
