Memorial Ball Hockey Tournament in memory of Sam Porter in support of Sammy's Climb Higher Foundation On July 17, 2022, the world lost Sammy.

SAM’S JAM 2023, a street hockey tournament for youth of different ages and abilities, taking place at Admiral’s Academy School in Conception Bay South from July 7-9, 2023. SAM’S JAM is being planned in memory and to honor 6-year-old Sam (Sammy) Porter. Brave, Determined, Adventurous and Kind, these are just some of the words used to describe Sam (Sammy) Porter. While he was only 6 years old, his u

nique personality, infectious laugh, smiling eyes and energy for life will be a memory we keep in our hearts forever. Sammy was known for his knack and ability for climbing trees, or climbing anything for that matter, it was his trademark. His love for sports came instinctively, he was a natural athlete. Sam played hockey, ball hockey, and softball in the community. At hockey, he was the fastest; his speed and stride were unforced, a natural skater. Sam ran the fastest, hit the hardest and tossed the furthest. Sam was full of energy and fearlessness. He was a little kid with an incredibly large personality, a true friend who is missed by so many. Ball hockey was a true passion for Sam. A special highlight of his young life was taking part in a street hockey tournament with his best friends making ever-lasting memories. He loved everything about that weekend tournament and asked daily when the next tournament would be. We couldn’t think of a better way to honor Sammy than to create a street hockey tournament so kids can make lasting memories, just like Sam and his friends. All money raised at SAM’S JAM 2023 will go back to a foundation created in Sam’s memory – Sammy’s Climb Higher Foundation. Sammy's Climb Higher Foundation is a not for profit dedicated to helping the members of our community in the sports and recreation sector. Sammy’s Climb Higher Foundation will work to provide funding to families who struggle to enroll children in sports/recreation/arts organizations and to community groups that require recreational equipment upgrades. Sam often questioned why some children were unable to play sports, in his own words “that’s not fair”. While some families can afford to pay their bills, they cannot afford the extras like sports for their children. Sam wanted everyone to play so the hope of the foundation is to help all those who struggle, not just low income.

One of our favourite parts of Sam’s Jam is the opportunity to create a space where everyone can play together — just like Sam would have wanted.

Sammy always believed everyone deserved a chance to be included, have fun, and feel part of the game. Because of that, we are so proud to once again offer the Everyone Can Like Sam Division at Sam’s Jam 2026.

This division is designed for individuals with cognitive, emotional, sensory, and physical exceptionalities, or anyone requiring assistance of any kind.

🏒 Games and skills will be adapted to fit each player’s needs
🏒 No hockey or ball hockey experience required
🏒 Helmets and sticks are required (except for extenuating circumstances)
🏒 Equipment can be provided if needed

Most importantly — this division is about smiles, inclusion, friendship, and creating a fun experience for every player.

✅ You can submit your team name at any point during the registration window.
All teams entered within the registration period will be placed into the draw and will have an equal chance of being selected.

🚨 Sam’s Jam 2026 Registration is Coming!

To keep registration fair for everyone, Sam’s Jam 2026 will once again use a random lottery system for team registration.

✅ No racing to click a link
✅ No need for ultra-fast internet
✅ Easier for those registering multiple teams

📅 Lottery Entry Window
🕘 Opens: April 15 at 9:00 AM
🕛 Closes: April 21 at 11:59 PM

Registration Fee: $375 per team

Selected teams will have 7 days to confirm their spot and submit payment.

We know that registration can be stressful, and tech issues happen! To keep things fair, Sam’s Jam 2026 will once again use a random selection lottery for team registration.

Lottery Draw Registration Details:
🗓 Opens: Wednesday, April 15 at 9:00 AM
🗓 Closes: Tuesday, April 21 at 11:59 PM
🌐 Register at: To be Updated

Important Notes:
❌ Entries submitted before 9:00 AM on April 15 will not be accepted.
⏳ Entries received after 11:59 PM on April 21 will go on the waitlist.

Lottery Draw & Team Selection:
📌The draw will take place, and selected teams will be notified by Monday, April 27.
📌Teams not selected will be placed on a waitlist and notified accordingly.

Divisions Info:
🔸️A minimum of 4 teams is required for each division.
🔸️If a division does not meet this requirement, the Sam’s Jam Committee will reach out to discuss options.
