Inspiring! May we all be able to just get on a bike at 90...without falling over.

Whatever your approach fitness, recreation, and healthwise, take the long view in life. It's not necessarily about crushing that half marathon time at 40yrs old (that is, when you haven't run in 10 yrs!)...or cramming in that Kilimanjaro peak for your 60th BDay (but your body is wrecked for months afterwards)...but rather taking those necessary daily small steps towards better overall health and wellness.

Train smart. Incrementalism wins the day in the long run.

Let's talk about your fitness goals!

What is your Why?

I just came across this movie:
https://youtu.be/ROQNfVc4BYI?si=puZqnUJyxXp4Ht-1
(And no I don't recommend you doing an Ironman in Antarctica as your first triathlon!)

Rather the athlete was motivated to do something like this to blow something up in his life, to kickstart things, and in the process wrestle some demons to the ground – it comes clear about halfway through the piece.

Some of us are similarly motivated to embark on an ambitious goal by a sense of desperation...while others are from a base of inspiration.
It's all good either way: just understand your WHY - it's a powerful step on the path of self-awareness.

And it may take a while for you to figure out your why...maybe long after you cross that finish line of your race.
And that's all good too. Feels bloody liberating when you do indeed get that!

Keep moving forward.

Don’t forget to turn on cc/subtitles. The film is translated into 10 languages. Thanks to the 4,212 people in our community, representing 72 countries, who b...

My last two posts were concerning a quote from an Olympic rower as well as the merits of cross-country skiing for overall fitness.
So it was ironic today up on Mount Washington while skate skiing I was joined by the Canadian women's National rowing team. Fit and fast these gals: they're going to be ready for the Paris games!
(And yes, I got my a$$ handed to me on a platter trying to keep up with these young ladies). 🙃

"Summer gold medals are won in the depths of winter"

Adam Kreek Cdn Olympic rowing gold medalist.

Face it, there are no shortcuts to success. You've got to put the work in well in advance of race day or (perhaps something that more of us can relate to) that final exam in school – or were you like me and you tried to do all-nighters?

But the more time you give yourself before that race day, the more prepared you're going to be. And there's nothing like a coach to help lay that foundation and then guide you through that "depth of winter" as you progress towards your goal.

So let’s have that conversation about your goals this yr. Shoot me a DM and we'll go from there.

(Oh PS, all nighters don't work well when you're training for an athletic goal. You can't fake fitness) 😉

More on Adam here:

Wintry weather can bring the blahs to any cycling and run training program, particularly when the roads aren't all that great out for such. And sticking to just the treadmill and the spin bike all winter can lead to mental burnout as well.
But there is help: cross country skiing! Here's a great primer on it: https://www.triathlete.com/training/a-triathletes-guide-to-get-started-cross-country-skiing/

But if that's a bit too ambitious for you there’s always snowshoeing: if you can walk, you can snowshoe!
Keep moving forward!

Many folks believe that a triathlon event is the same distance as the Hawaiian one on TV - an Ironman. But there are many (much!) shorter ones out there to "tri" out as you discover this great sport. Here's a great starting point for races in BC this year.

Consider hiring a coach to help you get to that start line!

"Unless you test yourself, you stagnate. When you lay it all out on the line - that's when you learn, you grow....and you thrive!"
- Mark Allen, 6 time Ironman World Champion.

Feeling stagnant in life? Need a kickstart to 2024? How about giving a triathlon a shot later this summer? To that end, I would love to work with you towards achieving your goals.
