What a great day of racing at the Sproat Lake event today. The day began with all teams proudly singing our national anthem, Oh Canada. Prevailing Wins raced hard in all three races with an "exciting" last race. Another boat hit our boat during the race but Tiller Ron was able to keep us upright and we finished the race. Bringing home the silver medal topped off a great race day. Many thanks to the West Coast Dragon Boat Society and their many volunteers for hosting a great event.

Many thanks to the River Spirit team for letting us use one of their boats up in Campbell River tonight. Since our regular harbour is still out of bounds because of the sewage spill, we needed another place to practice for the upcoming races at Sproat Lake.
Check out the River Spirit boats practicing as we are loading up.

Our team not only excels as a group of paddlers, we also work together as a team on many activities that help us bond, show our creativity, and make lasting memories as friends.
In the past few weeks, these have included painting the mural for our race tent, pulling then relaunching the boat after getting the new decals, and gathering our awesome pirate costumes that helped us win the Spirit Award. What an amazing team.
The old boat looks almost like a new speedy yacht, now.

Race the River 2026 - We brought home the gold bling AND won the Spirit Award, too. It doesn't get much better than that.
We are in boat #1 on the left soaring ahead in the video. Way to stay strong to the finish line, team.

On Saturday, April 11, we bid farewell to our long time teammate, Judy Willett. As was her request, Judy's husband, daughters, and granddaughters joined us on our boat for a paddle around Comox Harbour. The famous "Judy hat" came along for the ride. Local shells Judy had been collecting from our area were tossed back into the ocean. There was also a contingent of ex-teammates on the wharf waving good-bye and throwing carnations. A beer was raised in Judy's honour at her favourite watering hole.
We miss you, Judy.

Saturday March 14, 2026 - Our last Saturday morning paddle before moving to our regular evening practices. We had HUGE rafts of sea lions in various parts of the harbour hanging out to wave good-bye before they head south. The weather was cold but the sun was shining as you can see with our wooly hats and sun glasses.
Do not worry. Tiller Ron kept us far away from the sea lions. The photographers just used the zoom on their cameras.

What happens when a full boat of 20 paddlers and tiller come out on a cold, sunny Saturday morning but can't get to their boat because of the extremely icy ramp down to the dock??
They find a great coffee shop close by and talk over paddling in days to come.
There's always next week.

Our annual New Years Day paddle did not disappoint. Perfect temperature. No wind. Twenty two eager teamates. A fast paddle over to "Liitle Mexico" on the Spit. A wee bit of bubbly available to toast the 2026 year. Lots of delicious food shared by all. Laughter. Fun times.
Here's to a grand year of paddling together.
Paddles up, everyone.

Look at us go during the first race of the day at the Comox Dragon Boat Festival. Our team is in Lane 1 moving up on the powerful Navy team. Perhaps if we had Jorgen and Sonja there we could have caught them

A huge thank you to VIPaddling and all the volunteers for the well organized day at the Comox Dragon Boat races. Who knew that nasty wind would win out, shortening the race day fun.

What an exciting day at Gorge Sprints 2025. If there was ever the need for a photo finish, it was in our final race of the day. We happily take home the Silver medal in B Division.
