New Paddle Shape. This is a solid yellow cedar paddle with a shorter transition from Loom to Paddle blade. This feature is a personal preference of choice. The paddle blade is tapered from the end of the transition to end of the blade adding more flexing that some kayakers may also like.

The biggest comment that I get is: George should I take this paddling or just hang it over the fireplace.

These paddles can be shipped anywhere in Canada and US. The shipping costs are approximately $100 to Eastern Canada and US. You may ask why would anyone want a Greenland paddles shipped all the way from here on Vancouver Island. Well, here on Vancouver Island we can still obtain Old Growth Western Red Cedar. Old growth means trees over 200 hundred years old with very fine growth rings, you would not be able to count the rings without a magnifying glass. I also use yellow cedar which grows on the western side of Vancouver Island. Yellow cedar is very strong and durable wood, it was use to build large fishing boats here on the West Coast because it did not rot. You will NOT break a solid yellow cedar paddle while using it as a paddle. Solid Red cedar paddles will break especially along the loom because red cedar is brittle. Note: Do not use a solid red cedar paddle with a paddle float to perform solo re-entry rescues - you will break the paddle.
I make laminated red cedar and yellow cedar paddles to get a very durable and light weight paddle. The solid yellow cedar paddles weigh just over 2 lbs. but because the Greenland paddle stroke is lower than the Euro paddle stroke, this increase of a few ounces is not noticed on even longer trips.
Another important point to be made for my laminated paddles is that I use epoxy instead of glue to actually glue the strips together creating a bond between the different wood that is stronger than either wood. Take a look at the pictures, in some cases you cannot see the actual joint.
The last point that I would like to make is - take a lesson or two with someone who can actually teach you the proper Greenland stroke. So may times I see videos on You Tube showing a Greenland paddle stroke "expert" showing a modified Euro paddle stroke. To obtain a good Greenland paddle forward stroke takes time but the effort is well worth it when you finally get it.
See you on the water.

New Paddles
New paddles just waiting to be finished in the workshop. The close-up of the paddles shows the grain of old growth red cedar which is now very hard to obtain. The lighter wood is yellow cedar which is stronger than red cedar but adds a little weight to the paddle. The short paddle made from clear spruce is for 12 year old paddler.
