Tina Wilson is a health and fitness coach and owner/operator of Rise Up Rooted. She carries both the education and experience that makes for a strong and supportive health and fitness coach. Tina is a nationally certified personal trainer with the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology. She has a diploma in Kinesiology and Sports Studies from Red Deer College, and a bachelor degree in Occupationa

l Therapy from the University of Alberta. Tina had worked as an occupational therapist for fourteen years prior to stepping back and returning to her roots in health and fitness promotion in 2019. She is grateful to bring this past experience into a field that aligns with her own personal values and beliefs. Her intention is to empower individuals to find joy and strength in moving their bodies while taking charge and discovering their own unique health and fitness practices. With a strong interest and passion for women's specific health and fitness, Tina is constantly striving to learn more about how to apply the science into our everyday lives. Tina is also someone who has lived experience on both sides of the health and fitness continuum. "At one point in my life I lived a relatively sedentary life with poor nutrition and self-care practices. I understand the courage that is required to acknowledge that something has to change and the strength needed to make those often necessary changes. I have experienced that fear of the unknown and the need to come to a place of understanding that the journey never truly ends. I also believe that when the focus is placed on developing small consistent habits and behaviours that the outcomes will usually take care of themselves". Many of Tina's own health and fitness practices involve spending time in nature, both in solitude and with loved ones. She experiences the most joy when she is trail running, hiking, backcountry camping, or embarking in a number of outdoor pursuits in her west coast backyard. She is also an aspiring gardener and a passionate home cook who loves to experiment with whole food plant based eating. Tina would love to support you and be a part of your amazing journey in making your health and fitness a priority!

Posts like this one really hit home on why I do what I do. When I worked as an Occupational Therapist I was the person working with clients with dementia, osteoporosis and sarcopenia modifying their environments and providing strategies on how to prevent falls. Now as a personal trainer and group fitness coach I am working with people to help prevent these conditions from happening. No intervention is as powerful as prevention. ❤️

Looking for a women’s focused fitness class that utilizes our INCREDIBLE local green spaces to receive the health benefits that come from movement in nature? Registration for the upcoming spring & summer sessions is now open through the Comox Community Center! With a specialization in coaching women through the mid-life transition join coach Tina Wilson as she takes you through a total body strength workout, focusing on joint mobility, stabilization, and functional strength-based movement patterns. Classes run on Tues & Thurs with 2 time slots to choose from (7-8am & 9-10am). Choose either one or two days per week. Registration Alert! Winter programming registration starts November 14th, at 6:00am. You can view Rise Up Rooted classes in the Comox Valley Recreation Reporter or online at www.riseuprootedhealth.com. I have also included the program dates and registration codes below. All sessions are 5 weeks long and are $70.00 + GST. Let's embrace our wild west coast winters (and to quote Dr. Seuss with the occasional "midwinter jicker") by getting outside for some fresh air, natural light, breathtaking backdrops and functional strength based movement!

A beautiful reminder ❤️

So I had shared this lovely photograph of my beautiful artist friend and Grace Goddess Marianne Duquette Cuozzo... along with these fabulous words of Glennon Doyle... The post went viral... and now Facebook deleted it and said "I was going too fast"... Ugh... this platform!! Here are these fabulous words and Mariannes gorgeous photo again: “Your body is not your masterpiece — your life is.
It is suggested to us a million times a day that our BODIES are PROJECTS. They aren’t. Our lives are. Our spirituality is. Our relationships are. Our work is.
Stop spending all day obsessing, cursing, perfecting your body like it’s all you’ve got to offer the world. Your body is not your art, it’s your paintbrush. Whether your paintbrush is a tall paintbrush or a thin paintbrush or a stocky paintbrush or a scratched up paintbrush is completely irrelevant. What is relevant is that YOU HAVE A PAINTBRUSH which can be used to transfer your insides onto the canvas of your life — where others can see it and be inspired and comforted by it.
Your body is not your offering. It’s just a really amazing instrument which you can use to create your offering each day. Don’t curse your paintbrush. Don’t sit in a corner wishing you had a different paintbrush. You’re wasting time. You’ve got the one you got. Be grateful, because without it you’d have nothing with which to paint your life’s work. Your life’s work is the love you give and receive — and your body is the instrument you use to accept and offer love on your soul’s behalf. It’s a system.
We are encouraged to obsess over our instrument’s SHAPE — but our body’s shape has no effect on it’s ability to accept and offer love for us. Just none. Maybe we continue to obsess because as long we keep wringing our hands about our paintbrush shape, we don’t have to get to work painting our lives. Stop fretting. The truth is that all paintbrush shapes work just fine — and anybody who tells you different is trying to sell you something. Don’t buy. Just paint.
No wait — first, stop what you are doing and say THANK YOU to your body — right now. Say THANK YOU to your eyes for taking in the beauty of sunsets and storms and children blowing out birthday candles and say THANK YOU to your hands for writing love letters and opening doors and stirring soup and waving to strangers and say THANK YOU to your legs for walking you from danger to safety and climbing so many mountains for you.
Then pick up your instrument and start painting this day beautiful and bold and wild and free and YOU. Paint this day beautiful, bold, wild & free."~

CBC's White Coat Black Art by Dr. Brian Goldman has put out a 2 part series on menopause and the menopause transition (a.k.a perimenopause). Click the link below to access both episodes as well as a written article.

We need to be having more conversations to support the women in our lives during this transition that can last up to a decade (+/-) and can start as early as our late 30's. Some women even experience medically induced menopause earlier if they have gone through certain medical treatments or have required removal of their ovaries. Whether you currently going through perimenopause, have recently gone through menopause, or have other women in your lives (friends, daughters, nieces, etc.) in this life stage then this information needs to get out and be shared. I would love if we got to the place where as a society we can replace the word suffering with thriving!

Physicians say lack of information and poor access to doctors who have received specialized training on menopause have left most women without the tools they need to manage what can sometimes amount to debilitating symptoms.

Looking for a fitness class that utilizes our AMAZING local parks and green spaces instead of a traditional gym/studio space? Join coach Tina to receive the health benefits of moving your awesome body in nature! A variety of workout formats are used each class with a focus on foundational movement patterns and total body strength. Exercises are scaled so that everyone will have a fun, safe, and effective workout. Exercises include the use of body weight, resistance bands, and park equipment. NEXT CLASS SESSION STARTING NOVEMBER 1 2022

These classes are designed for individuals who are looking to safely connect while receiving the mind & body health benefits of total body strength training in the outdoors!
*Classes are designed for the general healthy population with ALL fitness levels welcome.
*Workouts are designed to be scaled up or down to provide a fun, challenging, & safe class for everyone!
*Minimal equipment is required (just a towel or exercise mat).
*Class will run rain or shine!
*Class size will be limited to 12 participants to ensure both a comfortable and safe environment.

If you are looking to cultivate connection within your community while building upon your strength and fitness then these may be just the classes for you to try!
