yesterday was the final silver stick as chair for Dale West. Collingwood Minor Hockey had a special thank you for Dale and his wife Linda (who I still say made me look good for 17 years as Tournament Director). As luck would have it the final game involved the two Collingwood U18 teams… so we did a different opening face off….joining the teams with Dale and Linda are Collingwood mayor Yvonne Hamlin. Silver Stick Commissioner Ross McConnell and new Silver Stick Collingwood chair Scott Hewlitt….great photo by Dave West

The first Championship Sunday since 2019 for Houseleague/Local League at Silver Stick Collingwood gave fans and players a lot to celebrate,

Players and fans alike were thrilled to take part in the first Houseleague/Local League final since 2019 and the action on the ice did not disappoint.

The day opened with Drayton Defenders claiming the U11 title as Max Somverville was solid in net for the shut out. Drayton defeated Listowel Cyclones 4-0. Beckett Martin helped out at the front end for Drayton notching two goals and an assist.

Strong pressure from start to finish blazed the trail for Mitchell Meteors in a 6-2 win over Listowel Cyclones in the U13 title game. A pair of late goals in the third by Greg Mc Kay closed the deal, Mitchell had a 4-0 lead in the third but saw Listowel battle back to with in two before Mc Kay's goals.

In the U15 game two very strong teams met and battled to the end of regulation with no score. A power play in overtime gave Collingwood Jr Blues LL1 the break they needed to score a 1-0 victory. Landon Sly got the winner for the home town squad. Jackson Reid for Collingwood and Brady Ropell for Huron-Bruce were the goalies who provided stand out games for their clubs.

The U18 game saw a rarity as the two Collingwood Local League U18 teams met each other in the final game of the day. The teams made it a championship match to remember as they headed to overtime then the shoot out before Collingwood Jr Blues LL 2 edged Collingwood Jr. Blues LL 1 squad 2-1 after the shoot-out. Cayde Ling for LL2 and Matthew Lamb for LL1 in regulation. LL2 won the shoot out on markers by Tate McCarl and Max Exner.

All of the winners have advanced to the Pelham International Silver Stick finals in January.

Hi Folks If you have been to Silver Stick Collingwood and Championship Sunday over the past few years you will have seen the work by our photographer Dave West. Dave couldn't attend last November. The town is rallying around he and his wife after a challenging time. If you can help that would be great.
