UROC Trail Report June 5th:

The torrential rains have subsided and we are starting to see the sun again. The trails are drying very quickly as we are lucky to have sandy/rocky soil, and purpose built MTB trails that handle the moisture very well.

This week our Trail Crew kept busy, despite the foul weather. They were able to inspect the trails and improve drainage where needed. They cleared down trees that fell over from the saturated ground. Secret Trail received a tune up and they were able to tackle the skill park, using the recent moisture to reshape the lips of the jumps.

On Saturday, June 6th, there is a great volunteer trail work opportunity for Ed Gregor Stewardship Day. This is a long standing forest stewardship day that offers a variety of different trail and outdoor projects in our community. UROC will be hosting a trail work day on Electric Monkey and Luge, reworking some corners and sections of trail. Tools will be provided. Please bring your own work gloves, sturdy footwear, water and lunch. The day kicks off between 8-9am with a free volunteer breakfast and project registration at the Blairmore Ranger Station. Please check out the poster for all the details.

Bee’s Knees Enduro is selling out quickly. We already have some categories that are completely full, and we will be starting a waiting list soon. If you want to race and have not registered, please do not delay! This year is going to be another amazing event, and we look forward to connecting with all of you for another great weekend of racing in Crowsnest Pass.

Our trails have handled the rain beautifully, and although there are still some areas with surface water, all trails are rideable again. Just note that when encountering a wet or muddy section, please ride straight through it, and do not make the trail wider by trying to ride around it. These wet sections are just temporary, and riding around these sections just makes more unnecessary work for our trail crew.

The weekend looks a bit mixed as far as weather goes, but generally trending in the right direction for a great weekend of riding.

Happy Trails!

I heard the ambulance siren getting closer. And then a voice: ‘Where do you live? We’ll take your bike home for you’

UROC Trail Report May 29th:

It has been very hit or miss with the weather out here these last couple weeks, and even if the forecast is only partially right for the next couple days, we are expecting some pretty serious rain for Saturday and Sunday.

The nice thing about the moisture we have been getting is that it has been absolutely ideal for our two trail building crews and they have been carving som beautiful dirt ribbons into the PPK hillside. There has been a lot of positive feedback on Blairmore Witch Project, and we have been able to lay eyes on the other trails and we think you will be very happy when they are ready to be opened.

Our UROC trail crew has almost made it through all of their spring maintenance. This week they were mostly on York Creek clearing the Connector, York with a Fork, Sweet Duanage, and cleaning up the skills park at PPK. In the near future they will start work on repairs for any wood bridges that need some love, or trail sections that need a rework. We are so fortunate to have our own crew to keep on top of the maintenance.

Bee’s Knees Enduro 2026 registration opens on June 1st at 8:00am. We are looking forward to getting this event going for the 4th year! It usually sells out quickly, so don’t delay.

This weekend Sinister 7 is hosting their Vertical Vendetta race at PPK on Saturday. Their running course is going to be heading straight up the T-Bar line on both the upper and lower sections of the mountain. The only section of mountain bike trail they will be using is the one small section of Spare Change that extends from the Bully Road and heads across the Chinook ski run. Just be cautious when crossing the lift line on Spare Change or when riding the last section of Buck50 along the bottom of the ski hill.

Spring weather in Crowsnest is super unpredictable, but the riding today (Friday) should be really good. No guarantee for the rest of the weekend.

Happy Trails!

UROC Trail Report May 22nd:

Good morning UROC members! It is a beautiful Friday morning, heading into a weekend of great spring weather.

The big news for the weekend is that we are having a soft opening of top section of the new Blairmore Witch trail at PPK. Star Trail Solutions has been hacking away at the hillside and has made a great new upper section which is almost completely hand built. This is an advanced trail, and our recommendation is that you inspect the top section before committing to riding the trail. If the top looks like it is beyond your skill level, it is recommended to not ride it, as the first section is an indication of the overall difficulty of the trail. Currently this trail ends at the junction of Buck50 and 75cent, which leaves great options to finish the rest of the ride. The crew is also working on an equally impressive technical blue trail in that same area, but it is not quite ready for public tires yet. The start of Blairmore Witch is located where the top rocky start of Buck50 meets the blue rider around at the T intersection.

In other news, our trail crew has been giving Spare Change a tune up now that the snow has melted, as well as cleaning up Roots of Hazard and Berma-Grin. They have also gathered a ton of lumber for some upcoming wood features on the new trails. Exciting times!

With this week’s moisture, and the trail crews hard work, our network is in fantastic shape heading into the weekend.

Happy Trails!

UROC Trail Report May 15th:

Happy Friday everyone! We are just heading into our first long weekend of the season and in classic May Long fashion Mother Nature is throwing us a bit of a curve ball.

Our trails are in impeccable shape as our trail crew works their way through, making improvements and tweaks to all your favorites. Luckily we have has some dry weather, so any of the mixed precipitation we receive will get sucked up quickly by the dry ground.

There is the potential that areas like PPK will see an increase in traffic this weekend, and we have put trails in to keep the cars and the bikes separated as much as possible. Please try and avoid riding up the road and use one of the numerous trail options to head up the mountain. If you are driving up the road to the lodge level, please use extreme caution and keep your speed to a minimum as there are bike crossings along the road.

We are fortunate that our trails have been designed to sustain a lot of traffic and various weather conditions. The dirt drains quickly, and you can usually ride fairly soon after the rain.

UROC is wishing everyone a great long weekend. Happy Trails!
