🥋 MEET THE INSTRUCTOR — GREG DA ROS

Meet Greg Da Ros, one of the instructors in our Junior Program.

Greg began karate in 1993, training in Uechi-Ryu for 14 years and earning his Sandan before beginning Chito Ryu Karate in 2008.

A longtime competitor, Greg has competed in close to 100 provincial, national and international tournaments. Highlights include silver in kumite at the 2010 Chito Ryu Soke Cup World Championships, bronze at the 1998 World Uechi Championships, and bronze at the 2004 Canadian National Championships.

Greg has also been a Karate Nova Scotia Provincial Team Assistant Coach since 2005, Tournament Co-Director since 2009, and served more than 20 years on the Karate NS Executive, including as President and Vice President.

His contributions to karate have earned him numerous provincial awards as both an athlete and volunteer, including Sport Nova Scotia Volunteer of the Year honours.

With more than 30 years in karate, Greg brings a wealth of experience to our Junior Program and a genuine commitment to helping develop the next generation of karateka.

From competition and closing ceremonies to catching up with old friends and making new ones, the Soke Cup is about much more than what happens in the ring.

Halifax Ryuseikan was proud to be part of an international gathering of Chito-Ryu karateka from around the world — sharing competition, friendship and a common passion for Chito-Ryu Karate.

A great start at the Soke Cup in Gold Coast, Australia!

Congratulations to Mark Doubleday on winning bronze in Men’s Bo Kata, and to Daniel Benoit and Tyrel Murray on their fourth-place finishes.

Halifax Ryuseikan Karate has arrived on the Gold Coast, Australia! 🇨🇦🇦🇺

Our team is getting ready to compete in the 15th Chito-Ryu Karate Soke Cup, August 14–15. A lot of hard work and dedicated training went into preparing for this event, and now it’s almost time to step into the ring.

Meet the Instructor: Daniel Benoit

Daniel's martial arts journey began in 1983 and he brings a wealth of experience to Halifax Ryuseikan Karate. A dedicated student of Chito-Ryu Karate since 2016, he has trained under German Sensei since 2017 and is a valued member of our Junior Program instructional team.

Prior to joining Ryuseikan, Daniel spent 11 years training in Tsuruoka Karate and also earned a Black Belt in World Taekwondo (WT). His experience includes competing in numerous provincial and international tournaments, and he is also a Certified Provincial Tournament Official.

Daniel enjoys helping students develop confidence, discipline, and strong fundamentals while creating a positive and supportive environment for learning.

We're proud to have Daniel as part of the Halifax Ryuseikan Karate instructional team.
