法剛柔呑吐

This is a well-known motto in Goju-Ryu Karate from Kempo Hakku and is often translated as:

"The principles of hard and soft are expressed through breathing."

Character by character:

法 (Hō) – law, principle, method, way
剛 (Gō) – hard, strong, firm
柔 (Jū) – soft, yielding, flexible
呑 (Don) – inhale, swallow in
吐 (To) – exhale, spit out

It reflects one of Miyagi's core principles: effective karate combines both hard and soft techniques, tension and relaxation, force and yielding, all coordinated through proper breathing.

This past weekend, during the Kenshi-Kai seminar in Kingston, Hanshi Luis Morales was presented with a commemorative plaque recognizing two decades of dedication, service, and instruction throughout Canada.

The plaque was made possible through the efforts of Sensei Stacy Kremer of Gamanshin - Karate Jutsu / Kobu Jutsu with participating dojos from across the Canadian Kenshi-Kai family joining together in appreciation of Hanshi’s continued guidance and leadership. (Fudoshin Dojo , Daijiken Dojo, Simcoe Goju Ryu Kyotokukan Dojo and Huronia Goju Ryu - Ongeikan Karate Jutsu )

For over twenty years, Hanshi Morales has shared his knowledge, time, and experience with students and instructors across the country, helping preserve and grow Kenshi-Kai Goju-Ryu while maintaining the values of discipline, humility, and respect for tradition.

Huronia Goju-Ryu – Ongeikan Dojo was honoured to be included among the participating dojos represented on this presentation.

Congratulations, Hanshi, and thank you for your years of teaching, mentorship, and service to the Canadian Kenshi-Kai community.
