I actually met Elaine at my eye doctor's appointment. We got chatting about fitness and she told me how she used to exercise but had fallen out of the routine and was feeling intimidated to get started again.

I think that's something so many people can relate to. We convince ourselves we need to get in shape before joining a gym when in reality the gym is the place that helps us get there.

What I admire most about Elaine is that even though she was nervous and didn't feel "fit enough" to start, she didn't let that stop her. She trusted the process, started with our onboarding program, stayed consistent, and the results have followed. She's already gaining muscle, building confidence and proving to herself that she is capable of far more than she thought.

The funny thing is that once she got here, she realized what I wish more people understood. Most of our members are just normal people. They work all day, come in, do their workout and go home. Nobody is judging. Nobody is comparing. We cheer for each other, support each other and want to see everyone succeed.

Elaine is a little shy at first, but once you get to know her, her sense of humor and laugh are hard to miss. She is lovely, humble and just genuinely fun to be around.

What stuck with me the most is that she's not doing this just for today. She's doing it because she wants to stay strong and independent later in life, for future grandkids, for herself and for the years ahead.

Elaine proves that sometimes what our brain tells us is going to happen and what actually happens are two completely different things. The hardest part is often just getting started.

Bench press is great and it will always be one of the best exercises for building strength and muscle in the chest. That being said, sometimes we get stuck doing the same exercises over and over again. One thing I like to do when programming is introduce different variations that challenge the muscle from a slightly different angle and give your body something new to adapt to.

Give a try with this Lying Supinated Front Raise, the goal is to get a big stretch at the bottom of the movement while keeping the arms as straight as possible, then focus on squeezing the pecs together at the top creating a v-shape. I particularly like this for targeting the upper portion of the chest while also creating a strong "mind to muscle" connection.

Please understand I am not telling you to get rid of your bench press BUT don't be afraid to add some variety to your training either. Sometimes the exercises that aren't your first choice end up being exactly what you need.

Most people think strength is about lifting heavier weights. Mike sees it a little differently.

To him, strength isn't about looking strong. It's about being strong enough to live a better life without depending on others or suffering more than you need to as you get older.

That's why he cares so much about creating a fun and safe environment for people to learn, try new things, and discover what they're capable of. One thing I've always noticed is that Mike has a way of getting people to attempt things they didn't think they could do. Sometimes all someone needs is a little encouragement and a coach that believes in them.

His goal has never been to create the strongest people in the room. It's to help people become stronger than they were yesterday so they can keep doing the things they love for years to come.

If you're willing to try, Mike is willing to help.

Find a place where people celebrate the little wins with you. ❤️

A high five after a tough workout, a quick chat during the cool down, celebrating someone's first push-up or a new personal best... those little moments matter.

Finding a place where people cheer you on, support your progress, and genuinely want to see you succeed makes all the difference.

And yes... around here we do give out a lot of high fives. ✋😆

Want to get more out of your leg day? Start here.

If your hips feel tight, your knees don't always cooperate, or squats just never seem to feel right, spending a few minutes warming up can make a huge difference.

Here Emma takes you through 3 of her favourite warm-up exercises:

✅ Banded Squat Hip External Rotations to wake up the hips and glutes
✅ Side Plank Clamshell with Hip Lift to get the glutes firing and improve hip stability
✅ Lateral Half-Kneeling Adductor Rock Backs to open up the hips and improve mobility before squatting

A good warm-up isn't about getting tired. It's about preparing your body to move better, perform better, and get more out of your workout.

Give these a try before your next leg day and let us know which one humbled you the most 😅👇

Apparently the Spanish Squat is the most hated exercise in the gym... and honestly I don't know if I can look at these people the same way again. 😒😂

Fun fact: Spanish squats are actually a great way to build strong quads while being a little friendlier on the knees than traditional squats. They burn like crazy though... which might explain the answers I got. 👀🤫

Sorry guys... they're staying in the programming. 🤷‍♀️🔥
