We are family-owned and operated, beginning with our founders Hermann and Christa Kerckhoff in 1981. The Kerckhoff’s immigrated to Canada in the late ’50s and fell in love with Canadian rivers. Hermann and his daughter, Claudia, were the first kayakers to descend the Ottawa River; encountering a prime location for rafting. Today, the company is thriving as world-class whitewater destination thanks

to their current owners, Claudia and Dirk Van Wijk. The third generation is quickly becoming more involved as well, with Stefani Van Wijk as Director of our sister company, Madawaska Kanu Centre, and Katrina leading the graphic design.

We use this gauge to assess the water level on the Ottawa River. The level tells us what features are “in” and helps us decide which path to take our rafters on to ensure they get the best of what the Ottawa has to offer at that water level.

The ice displaced the gauge this winter and we relied on the Shaggy Designs digital gauge for our spring trips. This gauge is back in place and ready to tell us if we should head for the middle or the main channel!
