⚽️⚽️Okanagans Day 2⚽️⚽️
The CSS girls soccer team concluded their season in Lake Country today with a commendable 7th place finish. Being the lowest seeded team, and the only public school in their pool, it was always going to be tough for the Raiders to break into that top 5.

Our first game of the day was against Kelowna Christian School. In much better weather conditions, the girls were pinned into their half from the start by a strong Kelowna midfield and forward line. Kelowna converted a direct free kick from just outside the box to take the lead and scored another from a cross into the Raider's box. The girls didn't let their heads drop and battled well against their opponents.

In the second half, CSS conceded another. Kelowna attacked down the right and although the assistant referee indicated that the ball went out of play, the game played on and Kelowna scored from the resulting shot. A huge blow for CSS. It didn't get the girls down, it stoked a fire. Aubrey F, Presley W, Keeley Y and Bailey R gave it their all to hunt down every ball and give the KCS defenders something to worry about.

CSS were able to force the KCS goalie into multiple saves in the second half. One of the highlights of the tournament soon followed. A cross was played into the KCS box and multiple red Raider shirts were hacking to try and get to it. The ball eventually fell to grade 8 and first year soccer player Julia C at the back stick who booted it into the back of the net. More drama followed as CSS thought they had scored a second from another corner. Aubrey F took a shot and it looked as though the ball clearly crossed the line as the goalie grabbed it from behind her, but the referee said no and the game ended 3-1. Tough to take for CSS.

That result meant the girls couldn't seal a provincial berth, and so attention turned to getting a result against Osoyoos, in what would now be the teams last game of the season, and last game of their high school careers for our 7 grade 12 players.

In the early exchanges Raiders were dealt a double blow as captain and conductor Bailey R limped off injured and was out for the game. As she left the field, Osoyoos broke through the middle and fired a nice shot beyond Shanti P in goal. The two teams were evenly balanced and physical and emotional fatigue started to take over both teams. Half time, Raiders were down 0-1.

Second half, with the wind behind them, CSS looked lively. Not much was getting through Kyrie B at the back, and going forward Raiders looked dangerous. Their moment came when an Osoyoos player handled the ball in the box and left the referee with no choice but to award a penalty. Cadence C stepped up to the plate and found the corner of the net, her first ever goal in her last ever CSS game. An emotional moment for her and her teammates. Raiders were unlucky not to capitalize on a few late chances, and after the game ended 1-1, we headed to overtime. No goals were scored, so CSS headed to another shootout, a familiar story for the girls this season.

It would be fair to say Raiders were confident heading into the shootout after having won 4 out of 5 already this season. However, with some of their regular shooters unavailable, the girls needed to adapt. One thing that was certain, was that super stopper Shanti P would be between the sticks. CSS chose to shoot first, and Cadence C stepped up again to fire into the top corner. Osoyoos sent up their best player, and Shanti stood tall to keep her out. Next up was Keeley Y, and her penalty was too hot to handle as it flew past the goalies hand. Osoyoos skied their second penalty, leaving Presley W with a chance to put CSS 3 up. She did it clinically, meaning Osoyoos had to score, or the tie would be over after only 3 shots each. A tense moment, and as the ball left the Osoyoos strikers foot, Shanti's feet were moving quickly and she was able to stretch and divert the ball away from goal. Game over, season over and a fitting way for the team to finish. Cue the screams of joy and tears of sadness as the curtain closed for the girls, especially Audrina C, Cadence C, Keeley Y, Teigan D-R, Ava S, Shanti P and Juliette J. A satisfying ending for all involved.

Thank you for your support this season. Thank you to our coaches and to our mom's who have helped behind the scenes on all of our adventures!

⚽️🌧🌧Okanagans Day 1🌧🌧⚽️
From qualifying in the Kamloops heat last Thursday, the CSS girls soccer team had complete opposite weather conditions to deal with today in Lake Country. Woeful, wet, windy weather during their first game against Vernon Christian School took away the spirit from another resolute performance.

In the opening exchanges, CSS looked dangerous and had an early chance when Bailey R delivered a peach of a ball into the box which just evaded 3 running Raiders. Vernon played some tidy soccer, but the CSS defense made them work hard to get close to their goal. Mia R stood her ground on multiple occassions and denied the Vernon forwards chances to go forwars. Vernon did get the breakthrough with a lovely strike from distance and were able to get another from distance shortly after to lead 2-0 at the break. Two goals that we could do little about.

In the second half, and with a few changes to their line up, CSS threatened with Aubrey F and Keeley Y up top. Anna-Jean R dropped into midfield for the first time and didn't look out of place as she hustled after every ball. Vernon scored twice more, but Raiders battled right to the very end. In the last second of the game Teigan D-R was bundled down in the box and CSS were awarded a penalty. Bailey R stepped up with the last kick of the game and found the bottom corner to see the game end 4-1.

After warming up, drying off (hah) and eating on the bus, CSS changed into their dry, red jerseys and took to the field against fellow league opponents St. Ann's for the third time this year. Little did they know it, but the girls were about to put in their biggest, grittiest, and proudest performance of the season. From the first whistle, from front to back, from the subs who were wrapped up in blankets, toques, gloves and hoodies, to our seniors who played 80 minutes without rest, the girls were a solid, unified, hard working team that went toe to toe with their opponents.

Across the back line, Cadence C, Ellie T, Kyrie B, Grace J, Audrina C, Sophie S and Shanti P were stubborn, resilient and protected Mia R who stood with little to do in goal. In our engine room Keeley Y, Bailey R, Anna-Jean R and Alida C were fantastic, fighting for every ball and supported by our hard working wingers Robyn G, Julia C, Teigan D-R, Alexis L, Taya N and Sadiey M. Up front, Aubrey F and Presley W constantly gave the St. Ann's defense problems to solve. From our bench, Simone C, Kelsey R, Ava S and our wonderful team manager Juliette J supported and provided for their team mates throughout.

For the whole game Raiders battled, and were eventually undone by a moment of brilliance in the last 10 minutes of the game. A tense ending, and CSS just couldn't find a response. The game ended in a 1-0 defeat, but a huge effort from the girls definitely didn't go unnoticed.

Tomorrow, the girls play Kelowna Christian and either Osoyoos or Revelstoke, knowing that they need to win both games to secure a provincial berth.

⚽️🏆OKANAGANS SECURED🏆⚽️
Wow.. After a tough league campaign, the opportunity for qualifying for Zones was on the line for the CSS girl's soccer team in tonight's playoff final against Ashcroft. CSS have failed to beat Ashcroft this year and the girls knew they needed to give it their all in the Kamloops heat.

The teams were balanced throughout the whole game and there was little to separate them in the first half. Aubrey F, Presley D and Teigan D-R all had a glimpse at goal, but nothing that troubled the Ashcroft goalie. At the other end, Grace J made a goal line clearance after a scramble in the Raider's box. Half time 0-0.

Second half was almost identical with no shots on goal, but Raiders worked hard off the ball to keep Ashcroft's dangerous players at bay. End of regulation time, 0-0.

At this point the heat and the fatigue was starting to kick in, but CSS, with a healthy bench behind them, battled on. Two halves of extra time were played without a break, in an effort to split the two teams. Again, the tie remained goalless and CSS headed to a shootout, a fete they have become accustomed too.

For the fifth time in a week, CSS lined up at half, this time with more pressure than ever. Win and they go onto Zones, lose and their season is over.

With Shanti P in goal and Sniper Simone C shooting first, CSS looked for a strong start. Ashcroft's first 2 shooters missed the target, and Simone struck sweetly to put CSS 1-0 up. Shanti made a big save, but Raiders missed 2 in a row, and Ashcroft converted their next one to tie it up 1-1. Keeley Y, in her first shootout this year stepped up and dispatched to give CSS the 2-1 advantage. With tension building, enter Shanti P to make another magnificent save to send her team into a chorus of celebration. CSS victorious, a low scoring shootout win to end an extremely close game.

Alida C won the MVP of the game after being on the end of some crunching hits, but she didn't let it affect her game, as she dusted herself off and got stuck in multiple times!

The girls head to Lake Country on Tuesday to compete in Okanagans for a place at Provincials.

🥈A valiant second place finish for the CSS girls soccer team in the Raiders Cup this weekend. Game 5 proved a stretch too far for the girls as Vanderhoof came out winners after another penalty shootout out.

CSS were slow out of the traps on the small field. 7 players per team, and Vanderhoof were the ones asking all the questions. Shanti P in the Raiders net had all of the answers and looked comfortable in between the sticks despite only putting on the gloves a few days ago. Half time 0-0.

Early in the second half, Vanderhoof took the lead through a deflected shot, the first goal that CSS had conceded in regular play all tournament. Raiders now had to chase the game and created a few chances through some good hustle from their front 3. A combination of Bailey R, Teigan D-R, Simone C, Anna-Jean R and Alexis L all posed threats, but Vanderhoof looked as though they were going to see the game through.

However in the dying moments, Simone "sniper" C made time stand still, taking a hopeful swing at the ball. It flew high and took an eternity to eventually drop into the top corner, just above the Vanderhoof goalie and just under the bar. The home bench and support went wild and it meant a fourth penalty shootout of the weekend was coming Raiders way.

The shootout was just as tense as the game, and after penalties missed by both sides, the teams were still locked after all outfield players had taken their shots. The responsibility was then passed onto the goalies and after the 14th shot, Vanderhoof came out victorious. A cruel end to the weekend for the girls, but a tournament they can be proud of!

MVP shirts were handed out to Simone C for her clinical efforts in front of goal, and to grade 8 Alexis L after her gritty performances everytime she took the field. Shanti P received recognition from the referees for her big save moments throughout the tournament.

Another busy week ahead for CSS where they will compete twice in Kamloops for a berth in the Okanagan Zones.

🏆Raiders Cup update🏆
The CSS girls soccer team played 3 games today in front of their home support. The first game took place on a smaller field and CSS lined up against Vanderhoof in a slightly altered 7 vs 7 game to accommodate some Vanderhoof injuries. Raiders adapted well to the new format and looked solid at the back, and dangerous up front. An evenly contested game throughout, but one of CSS's captains and stalwarts Bailey R rifled a free kick into the top corner of the net. A moment of class to separate the two teams, seeing the game end 1-0 to CSS.

After lunch, CSS faced Cedars Christian from Prince George. Another close game with no real clear cut chances from either team resulted in a penalty shootout, the first one that CSS has encountered this season. Two Raiders players had their efforts well saved, but Simone C, Anna-Jean R and Cadence C dispatched theirs and Shanti P made some big saves (her first appearance as a goalie in a shootout) to see CSS take the win.

Spirits were high, but energy was starting to drain in the last game of the day. CSS took on Burns Lake in a top of the pool clash. A good battle on the field from both teams, CSS had to defend resiliently, especially in the latter stages of the second half. Bailey R, Emelia R, Cadence C and Kyrie B defended resolutely to keep the Lakers at bay. Another 0-0 tie meant another shootout, and despite falling behind 2-1 after 3 shots each, Presley W, Simone C and Cadence C calmly converted and Shanti P came up clutch in goal again to see another shoot out win for CSS.

3 games, 3 big performances, 3 wins and 0 goals against in regular play sent CSS home happy and in a position to play for 1st-4th tomorrow!

Come on down and cheer the girls on at 10:30am and 1:30pm Saturday to see the girls play in Clearwater for the last time this season.

CSS girls soccer hosted KSA tonight in a tight encounter. Raiders looked hungry as they pressed and boxed in the visitors for most of the first half. KSA took the lead against the run of play when their first set piece was delivered into the box and tapped beyond the solid Courtney P in goal. Aubrey F and Presley W were causing problems for the KSA defense with their intensity, but Raiders weren't able to capitalize on that pressure.
In the second half, CSS kept their defensive structure and limited KSA again to very few chances. Audrina C and Cadence C kept their best players at bay, and the relentless Bailey R covered every blade of grass to drive her team forward. Raiders got their just rewards when they hit KSA on the counter attack. KSA's corner was well defended which then set CSS away on the break. Simone C found herself through on goal, with 2 blue shirts chasing her down and the KSA goalie charging towards her. Simone calmly rounded the goalie and with a composed finish, sent the ball into the back of the net.
Unfortunately, CSS were dealt a hammer blow in the later stages of the game, as a ball into the box somehow found the toe of the KSA striker and the ball trickled into the corner of the net. A tough way to end the game, but another resilient performance from the girls.
Lots more soccer to come this week as CSS head to Kamloops on Thursday, before hosting the annual Raiders Cup all day Friday and Saturday. Stay tuned for a schedule.

The CSS girls soccer team hosted for the first time last night as St. Ann's visited from Kamloops. A game where St. Ann's dominated the ball and played some nice soccer, CSS put in a performance to be proud of.
St. Ann's took the lead and looked to be in cruise control until the Raiders lived up to their name and snatched a nice counter attacking goal which was put away by Teigan D-R for her first ever goal!

Raiders defended resolutely and looked dangerous once they had the ball going forward , but St. Ann's took hold of the game again, and scoring some screamers, went into half time leading 4-1.

Second half was a similar tale, but Raiders stood tall against some strong individual performances. CSS had to shuffle their core as Grade 12 Shanti P was put in net (and didn't look out of place) and fellow Grade 12 captain Keeley Y had to leave the field after a heavy hit to the head. The girls adapted well, limiting St. Ann's to only 2 second half goals, and nicking another one of their own with the last kick of the game. Alexis L chased down the St. Ann's defense, causing confusion and allowing Aubrey F to convert a well deserved goal after a hard working performance.

Lots of positives for the girls to take into their upcoming fixtures over the next few weeks.

⚽️ The CSS girls soccer team travelled to Kamloops to take on Ashcroft in their first league game this evening. A closely fought contest saw Ashcroft take the lead despite the best efforts of Courtney P in goal. Raiders weren't behind for long as Bailey R stepped up again to curl a free kick over the wall into the top corner.

For most of the game CSS controlled lots of the ball and piled pressure on the opposition's half, but Ashcroft defended resiliently and caught Raiders on the break to lead 2-1. Despite throwing everything at the game, CSS weren't able to equalize and the game ended 2-1.

A quick turnaround will see the team travel back to Kamloops on Thursday to take on KSA in another league game.
