🧤 GSSC U10 Goalkeeper Spotlight - Benoïx M. ⚽

Goalkeeping isn’t always about making a spectacular save and holding every ball - it’s about making the right decision at the right moment.

In the first clip, Benoïx shows tremendous determination with a big double save, refusing to give up on the play and staying engaged until the danger is dealt with. 💪

In the second clip, he demonstrates another important goalkeeper quality: understanding that not every ball needs to be caught. Faced with a difficult shot that’s hard to handle cleanly, he makes the smart decision to steer the ball away from danger and protect his goal.

These moments are what development is all about - reading the situation, making decisions, and finding ways to keep the ball out of the net.

Keep working, Benoïx. The growth continues. 👏🧤

Last night in Women’s action featured vs - and with it, two goalkeepers I’ve been truly blessed to be a part of during different stages of their development journeys. 🧤⚽

My wife said to me yesterday, “Wouldn’t it be nice to get a picture of .j0nes & together?”

I laughed and said, “That would’ve been nice… but the match has already started.”

Then this morning, I woke up to this photo sent by Hunter.

Honestly, words can’t describe how proud I am - and surprised, to say the least. Moments like this remind me why I love coaching and why these relationships mean so much beyond the game itself.

Thank you, ladies. ❤️

🧤⚽️ Great to have U11 goalkeeper Finlay back with us!

After spending the past few months recovering from a broken wrist, Finlay is officially back on the pitch and putting in the work within his recovery process. 💪

Recovery isn’t always easy, but seeing his attitude, effort, and smile back out at training has been awesome. Step by step, save by save - we’re building back stronger. Proud of you, Finlay! 👏

Back on the pitch. 🧤⚽

Great to finally get back to work outdoors today with our new U8-U9 goalkeepers - and somehow the weather held up perfectly for us. 🌤️

A lot of smiles, a lot of energy, and the beginning of a new journey for the next generation of goalkeepers coming through Greater Sudbury Goalkeeping.

These early years matter. Building confidence, learning the fundamentals, and creating a love for the position is where it all begins. 💪

Excited for what’s ahead with this group.

You can prepare. You can read the game. You can make the right decisions.
And still - so much of what happens is out of your control.

That’s the position.

We feel everything. We see everything. And at times, we carry moments that were never ours to own in the first place.

But the standard doesn’t change.

Control what you can:
your preparation, your mindset, your decisions, your response.

Let go of what you can’t.

That’s not weakness - that’s understanding the position.
That’s growth.

Good Friday session in the books 🧤⚽

With the Lancer Dome still out of commission, we continue to adapt and get quality work in at the gym - and the standard doesn’t change. 💪

Today was all about introducing 1v1 situations and, with our younger group, learning how to make ourselves big using effective block shapes. Understanding when and how to apply these moments is key in their development.

While our goalkeepers are learning the importance of going hands-to-ball with smothering, the last thing I’m going to ask is for them to perform that action on a hard surface. Player safety always comes first.

Once we’re back in the Dome - or out on the field - we’ll build that piece in properly.

Progress doesn’t stop. We adapt. We grow.

Due to the recent collapse of the Lancer Dome following this past winter storm, we’ve made a pivot to ensure our goalkeepers can continue training with minimal disruption.

📍 NEW LOCATION:
Laurentian University
Ben F. Avery Physical Education Centre – Field House

🗓 Upcoming Sessions:
Sundays (March 22, April 12 & April 19)
🕙 10:00 AM – U8–U12 (2014–2016)
🕚 11:00 AM – U13–U18 (2008–2013)

Good Friday – April 3 (Alphonse Raymond Gymnasium – Laurentian University)
🕛 12:00 PM – U8–U12
🕐 1:00 PM – U13–U18

⚠️ Important Notes:
• Indoor surface → NO cleats (indoor shoes or runners only)
• Knee pads highly recommended
• Elbow pads optional
• Mats will be provided for diving sessions

🚗 Parking: Lot #12 or near main fields
👟 Parents/Guardians are welcome to use the indoor track (proper footwear required)
