Yesterday was a bittersweet one at Greater Sudbury Goalkeeping, as we had our final session with U8 goalkeeper Lennox L. before he and his family begin an exciting new chapter in New Zealand. 🇳🇿⚽️

Joining Lennox in this photo is his older brother, Tyson, who was part of our programme a few years ago before transitioning fully to a field player- and a very talented one at that!

I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know this family over the years, and Mom and Dad should be incredibly proud of the two young men they’re raising. Lennox may be pleasurably rambunctious at times 😂, but both boys are polite, well-mannered, communicate so well, and are simply the kind of kids you love having around. They bring smiles, positive energy and a genuine happiness wherever they go.

Beyond the football, I feel fortunate to have built a relationship with Mom and Dad as well. That’s one of the special parts of what we do - the relationships often become so much bigger than the sessions themselves.

Lennox and Tyson, you’ll certainly be missed around here, but I’m looking forward to following your journeys from afar and watching you continue to grow - not only as athletes, but as young men.

Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your journey. Wishing the entire L. family nothing but the very best as you begin this incredible new adventure Down Under. 🇨🇦🇳🇿

Keep smiling, keep playing, and keep being you! 🧤⚽️

🧱🧤 ABSOLUTE WALL! 🧤🧱

Check out Aaron F. coming up HUGE with back-to-back block saves in last night’s action! 🔥⚽

First save. Quick recovery. Set again. BIG second block. 💥

This is what we love to see - the play isn’t over after the first save. Recover, reset, and be ready for the NEXT ACTION!

Fantastic work, Aaron! Way to stand tall, make yourself BIG and protect your goal when your team needed you. 👏🧤

Keep building, Keeper! 💪

🧤⚽ FALL GOALKEEPER REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! ⚽🧤

Ready to take your goalkeeping to the next level?

Greater Sudbury Goalkeeping is now accepting registrations for our Fall 2026 8-Week Goalkeeper Development Programme!

📅 Begins: Sunday, September 13th
🕔 5:00-6:00 PM
📍 Lancer Dome
🧤 U9-U12 | U13-U18

Our programme is built specifically for the unique demands of the goalkeeper position - from the fundamentals of handling and footwork to diving, 1v1s, distribution, decision-making and more.

⭐ SMALL GROUP. MORE REPS. MORE COACHING.

We aim to maintain a 6:1 goalkeeper-to-coach ratio whenever possible, allowing our coaches to provide individual attention, meaningful feedback and plenty of quality repetitions.

Goalkeepers are grouped according to age and skill level to create an environment where they can be appropriately challenged while building confidence and enjoying the position.

⚠️ SPACE IS LIMITED

Because we purposely limit our goalkeeper-to-coach ratios, we can only accept a certain number of goalkeepers each block. Waiting lists are common, so please don't wait until the last minute to register.

Whether your goalkeeper is just beginning their journey or looking to sharpen their skills for the next level - we'd love to have them join us.

🧤 UNTIL NEXT TIME, JOSH… 🧤

Last night marked Joshua Bondoc’s final evening with our team before heading back to Algoma University for his final year.

Josh has been an important part of the Sudbury Cyclones journey - from our inaugural OPL3 season two years ago to returning this year as part of our OPL1 squad. Watching him grow as a goalkeeper, competitor and young man has been something I’m incredibly proud to have been a small part of.

This is one of the harder parts of being a goalkeeper coach.

Goalkeeper coaching, at least for me, is personal. You get to know the person behind the gloves - what gives them confidence, what frustrates them, when they need to be challenged and when they simply need someone in their corner.

You coach the person first, goalkeeper second - and somewhere along the way, you become invested in their journey.

When you know a goalkeeper is only with you temporarily, eventually this day comes. It’s happened before, it’s happening again with Josh, and I know it’ll happen many more times.

It feels a little like sending one of your own kids off to school. You’re proud and excited for what’s ahead, but a part of you isn’t quite ready to see them go.

Josh, thank you for trusting me, for everything you’ve given to the Cyclones and our goalkeeper union, and especially for giving back to the young goalkeepers you’ve helped me coach along the way.

Go enjoy your final year at Algoma. Keep working. Keep growing. Keep being you.

This isn’t goodbye - it’s until next time. 🧤❤️

All the best, Josh. I’m going to miss having you around.

🧤⚡ WHAT A NIGHT FOR OUR GOALKEEPERS! ⚡🧤

Last night, our Greater Sudbury Goalkeeping family had the opportunity to be part of the Sudbury Cyclones OPL1 Men's Team Walk-Out at Cambrian College - and what a fantastic, nail-biting match we were treated to!

For our young goalkeepers, they couldn't have asked for a better example to watch as Sudbury Cyclones goalkeeper Connor Vande Weghe put on an absolute goalkeeping clinic against St. Catharines Club Roma. 👏🧤

There's something special about our developing goalkeepers being able to watch one of the coaches they've worked with step between the posts on game day and see the position performed at a high level - the decision-making, communication, positioning, composure and, of course, the shot stopping!

Then it was their turn! 🔥

At halftime, our young keepers took to the field for an exciting game of GOALKEEPER WARS! ⚔️🧤

What an opportunity for them to showcase their skills, compete, have some fun and experience the energy of performing in front of a crowd!

A huge THANK YOU to all of our parents and families for bringing your goalkeepers out and supporting this experience. These are the moments and memories that make being part of the soccer community so special.

And thank you to our parents for sharing the fantastic photos and capturing the evening! 📸

Most importantly - to our young goalkeepers, WAY TO REPRESENT! Keep learning, keep competing and keep enjoying the journey. 🧤⚽

🏆🧤 Congratulations to Carsten B.! 🧤🏆

What an incredible moment yesterday at the Sudbury Youth Cup, hosted by taylorsoccergroup !

After a hard-fought match finished level at the end of regulation time, the championship had to be decided by penalty kicks. That’s when Carsten stepped up in a big way, making a fantastic save to help his team secure the victory! 👏⚽

Moments like these don’t just happen - they’re built through courage, confidence, and the willingness to keep learning and growing.

We’re so proud of everything you’ve accomplished this season, Carsten. Keep working hard, enjoying the journey, and believing in yourself.

Way to go, Carsten! Your Greater Sudbury Goalkeeping family is cheering you on! 💙🧤

Last night was a make-up session for our U8-U10 goalkeepers, and honestly, the conditions couldn’t have been much better for goalkeeper training. 🧤⚽🌧️

The temperature was perfect, the grass was wet, the ball moved quickly, and our young goalkeepers had the opportunity to experience the game the way it was meant to be played - adapting to the environment in front of them.

As goalkeepers, we don’t get to choose the conditions. We learn to embrace them.

A little rain teaches confidence.
A slippery surface teaches bravery.
An unpredictable bounce teaches focus.

By the end of the session, as if the soccer gods were rewarding the effort, we were treated to a beautiful rainbow stretching across the sky. 🌈

Moments like these remind us that some of the best training sessions aren’t always under perfect blue skies.

Great work, keepers. Thank you for bringing the energy, the smiles, and the willingness to get a little wet in pursuit of becoming better goalkeepers.

🧤 GSSC U10 Goalkeeper Spotlight - Benoïx M. ⚽

Goalkeeping isn’t always about making a spectacular save and holding every ball - it’s about making the right decision at the right moment.

In the first clip, Benoïx shows tremendous determination with a big double save, refusing to give up on the play and staying engaged until the danger is dealt with. 💪

In the second clip, he demonstrates another important goalkeeper quality: understanding that not every ball needs to be caught. Faced with a difficult shot that’s hard to handle cleanly, he makes the smart decision to steer the ball away from danger and protect his goal.

These moments are what development is all about - reading the situation, making decisions, and finding ways to keep the ball out of the net.

Keep working, Benoïx. The growth continues. 👏🧤

A special thank you to Mom for sharing these clips with us. It’s always great to see our goalkeepers applying their skills and confidence in match situations!

Last night in Women’s action featured vs - and with it, two goalkeepers I’ve been truly blessed to be a part of during different stages of their development journeys. 🧤⚽

My wife said to me yesterday, “Wouldn’t it be nice to get a picture of .j0nes & together?”

I laughed and said, “That would’ve been nice… but the match has already started.”

Then this morning, I woke up to this photo sent by Hunter.

Honestly, words can’t describe how proud I am - and surprised, to say the least. Moments like this remind me why I love coaching and why these relationships mean so much beyond the game itself.

Thank you, ladies. ❤️

Keep chasing it.

🧤⚽️ Great to have U11 goalkeeper Finlay back with us!

After spending the past few months recovering from a broken wrist, Finlay is officially back on the pitch and putting in the work within his recovery process. 💪

Recovery isn’t always easy, but seeing his attitude, effort, and smile back out at training has been awesome. Step by step, save by save - we’re building back stronger. Proud of you, Finlay! 👏
