Aikido of Prince Edward Island

Aikido of Prince Edward Island Aikido of Prince Edward Island offers instruction in traditional Aikido. Come out and watch or try a class for free!

Aikido of Prince Edward Island offers self-defence training in the Japanese martial art of Aikido. Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese martial art which relies on a combination of timing, balance, and body movements to redirect aggressive attacks. Aikido emphasizes self-defence techniques such as joint locks and throws to control an aggressor and neutralize their attack. Because Aikido does not r

ely on punching, kicking, or other “striking” to subdue an aggressor it can be used to end a conflict without brutality. Aikido practice also helps develop strength, coordination, and flexibility as well as a calm and focused mind. In addition to unarmed techniques, the use of weapons including the jo (staff), bokken (wooden sword), and tanto (wooden knife), are incorporated into training to help develop proper distance, timing, and mental focus. Instructor: James Reed Jones

I began Aikido training in 2003 at the University of Guelph Aikikai and continued my training at Aikido of El Paso. I currently hold the rank of Nidan (2nd degree black belt) from the Aikikai Foundation, the Aikido World Headquarters in Japan. I continue to study Aikido, attending major seminars throughout Canada and the United States taught by leading Aikido Instructors. Aikido of Prince Edward Island is affiliated with the United States Aikido Federation and through it the Aikikai Foundation in Japan.
