The Battle of Medak Pocket, a tough conflict for Canadian troops in September 1993 as part of a UN mission in Croatia, is often called "Canada's forgotten battle" because it occurred in a complex post-Korean War environment. During this large engagement, Canadian soldiers fought Croatian forces who were carrying out ethnic cleansing of Serbian civilians in the area. After the battle, Canadian forces found evidence of atrocities, which had a profound impact on the soldiers, leading to operational stress injuries for many.
