802 visits. One month. One bigger purpose.

In August, Islanders walked through our doors 802 times for 1-on-1 sessions and classes. And that doesn’t include our memberships.

But for us, the number isn’t the important part.

Every visit is an opportunity to improve health, build strength, manage chronic conditions, prevent disease, and help people stay independent and active.

We believe exercise should be part of healthcare. Not something people turn to only after their health has declined.

By helping Islanders improve their health earlier, we can play a role in preventing chronic disease, managing existing conditions, and reducing avoidable pressure on our healthcare system.

That’s what T3 is here to do.

PEI just released its new Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Framework.

It’s a 37-page framework outlining how we can better prevent and manage chronic disease across the province.

There’s just one problem.

The word “exercise” doesn’t appear once.

That’s a pretty significant omission when we know how important physical activity is to chronic disease prevention and management.

Regular exercise can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers, while improving blood pressure, blood glucose control, cardiovascular fitness, strength, mobility, physical function, mental health and quality of life.

And for people already living with chronic conditions, exercise can be prescribed and adapted to their individual needs, abilities, symptoms and limitations.

This isn't about saying exercise replaces physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians or other healthcare professionals.

It’s about recognizing that exercise professionals belong in the conversation, too.

Kinesiologists and Clinical Exercise Physiologists are specifically trained to assess physical function, prescribe exercise, monitor responses and progressively adapt exercise for people with a wide range of health conditions.

If PEI is serious about preventing and managing chronic disease, exercise needs to be part of the framework—and the professionals who specialize in it need a seat at the table.

We should be doing more than telling Islanders to “be active.”

We should be building a healthcare system that helps them do it safely, effectively and consistently.

Yesterday, T3 Fitness took to the water! 🐉🚣‍♂️

Our team, Pirates of the Hillsborough, hit the water at the Charlottetown Dragon Boat Festival, made up of T3 staff and clients, including many members of our EXCEL program.

We may not have walked away with the trophy, but we definitely walked away with some great memories, a few sore muscles, and a whole lot of laughs. 😂

And this team has been putting in the work for a good cause long before race day. Back on July 23, we held a bake sale and raised nearly $1,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation PEI**. ❤️

Movement, connection, community, and giving back, that's what T3 is all about.

Thank you to everyone who paddled, cheered, baked, donated, and supported the Pirates of the Hillsborough!

Exercise selection should have a purpose.

An exercise shouldn’t just be in your program because it’s popular, because you saw someone else doing it, or because it “looks good.”

You should know:
→ Why you’re doing it
→ What you’re trying to improve
→ How you’ll progress it
→ How you’ll regress it if needed
→ Where it fits into the bigger plan

A good exercise program isn’t just a collection of exercises.

It’s a plan.

At T3, we believe exercise should be intentional, individualized, and built around the person, not the exercise.

Teach. Test. Train.

We currently have 2 private treatment offices available, and we’re open to both room rental and employment/contract arrangements.

🤝 Ideal for a Registered Massage Therapist, but we’re open to other complementary practitioners

Walking is fantastic for cardiovascular health, mental clarity, and basic daily movement. But if your goal is building bone density, keeping muscle mass, or optimizing long-term metabolic health, walking alone isn’t enough.

Here is what the research actually shows:

1. Walking doesn't stop muscle or bone loss
When losing weight or aging, aerobic exercise alone fails to protect lean mass. In a New England Journal of Medicine trial, walkers lost 5% of their muscle mass and 3% of their hip bone density. Adding resistance training was required to preserve structural tissue and quadrupled strength gains. (Villareal et al., 2017)

2. Bones need heavy forces, not just steps
Walking creates low, repetitive forces that your skeleton quickly adapts to. According to research in Endocrinology and Metabolism, walking fails to reach the mechanical strain threshold needed to stimulate bone remodeling at critical sites like the spine and hips. You need high-peak mechanical tension from loaded movement patterns to build real bone mineral density. (Hong & Kim, 2018)

3. Walking skips your most powerful muscle fibers
Walking relies mostly on slow-twitch (Type I) muscle fibers, leaving fast-twitch (Type II) fibers at risk for age-related atrophy. Harvard research published in PLOS Medicine shows that resistance training targets these Type II fibers—the body's primary glucose sink—slashing type 2 diabetes risk by 34% independent of aerobic exercise. (Grøntved et al., 2012)

The takeaway: Keep getting your steps in, but don't skip the weights. Mechanical tension and progressive overload are non-negotiable for long-term health, strength, and longevity.
