Another awesome night at Oyster Bed Speedway!
Our division was on the same card as the Pro Stock Tour which means we only had two races, a heat and a feature last night. There wasn't a whole lot of time to catch my breath from the heat to the feature as they were pounding in the house divisions before the 150 lapper.
In the heat race we started on the pole! I was definitely nervous heading into it because I had never started up front let alone on the pole before. The green dropped and I was foot to the floor trying to keep it out front. I can officially say I've led laps at Oyster Bed Speedway! It was so cool seeing the #17 in first place on the scoreboard. The combination of the track temperature, the traction compound put down on the bottom line, and the crazy buildup of rubber on the track made the car quite tight. It was difficult for me to run the bottom and eventually by the end of the 10 lap heat I had gotten passed by the Bridges to bring her home in third place in my heat.
In the feature, I once again started on the pole. The track temp dropped a bit and the track became just a touch more grippier. I was leading laps again at the very start and a caution came out. We stacked the field back up and went green again. Jeff Bridges in the #95 tore through the field starting last (what's new, right?), caught me looking in the mirror and gave me a little bump n' run in turn 1. He got by me but then the next lap near gave me a heart attack. Coming into turn 3 I was running lower on the track but because of the tightness I was slowing up a lot and the #3 of Campbell Stewart sent it up the inside and got into my left rear and near sent me spinning to the infield. I somehow saved the car and got it pointed straight. He came up and apologized in the pits but it was all okay, just a racing deal! Hate that it blew his right front tire and he couldn't keep going. There's an on-board as well as outside video of what happened attached in this post, I was blown away at how much I was sawing on the wheel! I held my position in second but then near the end of the race Cash Bridges in the #69 was hot on my tail and he managed to get by me while trying to also navigate lap traffic. In the end, I brought it home 3rd place in the feature, winning my very first trophy at the track! It was such an awesome feeling and I cannot wait to be back out next weekend.
Of course, this all wouldn't be possible without incredible sponsors.
