After more than 25 years of dedicated service to Holland College, our long-time Director of Athletics and Recreation, Albert Roche, is retiring.

Albert began his journey at Holland College in 1998 and, in 2004, became the first—and only—Athletics and Recreation Director in the history of the Holland Hurricanes. Since that time, he has played a transformative role in building the athletics department from the ground up, shaping it into a nationally respected and community-driven program.

From championship banners to unforgettable memories, Albert’s leadership, passion, and commitment have left a lasting impact on generations of Hurricanes student-athletes, coaches, and staff.

Please join us in celebrating Albert’s incredible career and wishing him all the best in his well-earned retirement! 👏

After the 4th annual College Royal hosted at Clyde Bank Farm, our team took a few minutes to reflect on our amazing 2023/2024 season & presented our end of year Canes Equestrian Team Awards! 🌪️🩶

⭐️Jaden Crossley⭐️ Canes Sportsmanship Award: This award acknowledges and celebrates exemplary leadership & sportsmanship that has a significant and positive impact on advancing the team & club.

⭐️Faith Creed⭐️ Rookie of the Year Award: This award acknowledges & celebrates the top-performing rider in their first season with the team & club.

⭐️Denika DeCoste⭐️ Most Valuable Rider Award: This award acknowledges & celebrates the rider with the team & club that has shown the most consistent performance & sets an example for the rest of the riders.

⭐️Nicole Yard⭐️ Work Horse Award: This award acknowledges & celebrates a rider who has committed to their own improvement by putting in the time to excel in the sport regardless of obstacles.

⭐️Rebecca MacLeod⭐️ Best Teammate Award: This award acknowledges & celebrates a rider who supports their teammates always, ensuring everyone’s success above their own.

⭐️Jasmine Berliner⭐️ Coaches’ Award: This award acknowledges & celebrates a rider who has committed to their coaches’ program and demonstrates the utmost respect & continues to show up.

⭐️Hannah Smith⭐️ Alumni Leader Award: This award acknowledges & celebrates an Alumni rider who commits to their team after they have graduated & demonstrates support & leadership to new riders.

⭐️Elizabeth Spears⭐️ Most Improved Award: This award acknowledges & celebrates the rider who has committed to their program & improved immensely in their own skills.

⭐️Jayden Rose⭐️ Team Spirit Award: This award acknowledges & celebrates the rider who brings a positive attitude and team spirit to all team activities & encompasses the love of the sport & equine.

⭐️Becka Henderson⭐️ Most Dedicated Award: This award acknowledges & celebrates the rider who dedicates their time to team activities & always commits to their performance and sportsmanship while representing Holland College.

We are co-hosting with PEI Hunter & Jumper Association again to bring a low cost, welcoming and fun schooling competition on April 27th at Clyde Bank Farm. Everyone is welcome to attend and with the sun slowly making its way here, we are planning to host outside, in the incredible outdoor arena as our show ring! Bring a lawn chair and join us for a great day of learning about the Holland College Equestrian Team & PEI HJA! 🥳☀️

We are beyond proud to celebrate our 23-24 Team and our Rider of the Year, Denika DeCoste!!

Denika is currently studying Adult Education at the Summerside Waterfront campus. Denika has applied to the Automotive Technology program for September with the hopes of continuing her Hurricanes journey.

Denika is from Summerside, PEI. Before joining the Equestrian Team in September, she competed in many different disciplines including barrel racing, and reining, as well as Hunter undersaddle and equitation classes. She’s been riding for over 7 years, but took a bit of a break the last 2 years while she raised her son, Tate.

The team has watched Denika grow not only as a skilled rider, but as an incredible individual. She always supports her teammates by checking in on them and going over competition tests. She keeps a positive attitude at every team event, sets a positive standard for herself and her fellow teammates, dedicates her limited time to practices and is always showing her cool and collected skills at competitions, while representing Holland College.

Over the last 3 months and 5 team competitions, Denika has had many highlights from first places to 2/5 division championships and a reserve division championship as well! She finished the year as Reserve Champion of her Division!

Only 2 riders from our roster of 11 competed at all 5 competitions and other than Becka, Denika has committed at every request.

The Hurricanes Equestrian Team had our fifth and final AIEL show of the season today weekend hosted by Acadia at Rohan Wood Stables! We had a small but mighty team 4 of Hurricanes riders entered this weekend.

It was an extremely successful day along with the show season this year! Thank you to our AIEL President Victoria and the AIEL Vice President Ari for their leadership in the league this year! It’s a huge task for two people to take on! The things you do don’t go unnoticed!

The Hurricanes Equestrian Team had their fourth AIEL show of the season this weekend hosted by at Owls Ridge! This being our last trip to Owls Ridge for the year! We had 7 Hurricanes riders entered in four different divisions this weekend!
