At Seawinds Horse Archers in Nova Scotia from 29 May to 3 June a small group of guests engaged in 6 days of OKS Training, Grading, and Competition with a very special instructor from The Netherlands, Siem Budding. Siem had arrived three days earlier, accompanied by his partner, Romy de Lange. Since Siem had only faced the OKS track on two occasions previously, a few days prior to the camp were devoted to his own private training and getting to know his archery horse partner for the week, our Halflinger mare, Honey.

This training camp was Siem’s first in-person educational offering in North America, but we quickly learned why his instruction has become so popular in the Netherlands. His depth of knowledge and associated ability to help progress student is obvious.

And yes! We were literally visited by a family of whales just meters from the track--a first since 2018 when the OKS track was built!

WFEA GRADING RESULTS

During this camp, Siem and 3 other riders were part of the WFEA Equestrian Archery Martial Arts grading exams process, where no belt levels may be skipped, and where each level requires competition results between exams. We announce the following exam results:

OKS COMPETITION RESULTS

The results of the competitions on 31 May and 3 June tell a story of several personal bests and one World Record. On 3 June 2026, Siem Budding riding the Haflinger mare Honey made a new personal best and set a new OKS World Record for the Quiver Category with a result of 272.69 points. This result sets Siem at 3rd place overall in the WFEA World Ranking for 2026 to date, and preserves his standing as 6th highest result of all time in the 32 years the OKS has recorded results.

Dávid Molnár made history on the weekend when on the back of.his horse Tordas he broke his old world record for horseback archery and made a brand new one!

Breaking his own previous record (317.16 points), Molnár Dávid achieved 322.36 points on an official OKS competition on May 23, 2026.

Although this class is beginner friendly and no experience is necessary, we also welcome experienced archers to challenge themselves with this dynamic shooting style.

We do offer regular weekly classes, however space is limited!
Dynamic Archery is a martial discipline with ancient origins based on movement, timing, and instinctive shooting where speed and precision are trained together. Lance Bishop is an International Instructor with the World Federation of Equestrian Archery (WFEA) and North America’s top ranked WFEA horseback archer. Following the teachings of the Original Kassai System originating from Hungary, Lance has taught Horseback Archery and Dynamic Archery since 2019, and together with his partner Sarah Clarke for the past 5 years.
Now Dynamic Archery is being developed to become a formal martial art. Not only will it remain a strong foundation for the horseback archery martial tradition, but it will become a formal discipline in itself with an associated ranking and martial arts grading system. Lance and Sarah are welcoming local initiates by offering weekly 2-hour classes at their Seawinds Horse Archers location in Baxters Harbour, Nova Scotia.
Training includes structured progression, movement-based shooting, timed trials, and the early development of forms and standards that will define the system going forward. Those who start now will help shape what the Dynamic Archery Martial Art becomes.

Dynamic Archery training is continuing this season at Seawinds Horse Archers in Baxters Harbour, Nova Scotia.

Weekly classes will run Tuesdays from 6:00–8:00 pm, May through September.

Led by Lance Bishop and Sarah Clarke, training focuses on movement-based instinctive shooting, timing, speed, and precision using the horsebow tradition rooted in the Kassai System. Classes include structured progression, timed drills, and ongoing development within the evolving Dynamic Archery martial art system.

Training takes place at Seawinds Horse Archers Club, 8 Old Baxters Mill Rd, Canning, NS.
Monthly training admission is $140 + HST ($130 + HST for students using their own horsebow and arrows), with family rates available.

Space is limited to 18 students per class.
