11 years ago Marlie joined our family. I know when you come into the barn, you see this old mare, moving a little slower than she used to, looking a little less fancy than some of our other horses...but Marlie has earned every moment of love and peace and comfort she gets. Aside from winning races in Ontario, she's been my best friend for over a decade. She's done therapeutic visits, met all kinds of wonderful people, supported all sorts of clients, taught little and delicate riders how to ride. She's inspired lots of people to be brave, to overcome odds, to love despite their circumstances and history. She is a wonderful ambassador, even if her bottom lip droops when she naps in her stall. To my Marlie, it is a blessing to sneak you treats when no one is looking, to make sure your mash is always warm and squishy for your tender old lady teeth, and to give you hugs even when you'd rather be eating your hay. Happy Gotcha day Marlie!
