Diving at the May Island Wreck yesterday and this Harbour Seal kept following the divers. Another strange activity was the seal sucking on Plumose Anemones.

On our way back to dock after a dive at Copper Cliffs we came across a massive school of herring and lots of eagles and seagulls feasting.

It started out with a bit of sunshine but after the divers headed underwater it started to blow from the northwest. One foot chop and snow within 30 minutes! Amazing!

Excited to see the upcoming “Secrets of the Octopus” this coming Earth Day. A National Geographic series some of it shot here in Campbell River by cinematographer Maxwel Hohn featuring local diver Krystal Janicki.

Octopuses are like aliens on Earth: three hearts, blue blood and the ability to squeeze through a space the size of their eyeballs. But there is so much more...

Sometimes it feels like there are hundreds of eyes on you when you are diving in the waters off of Campbell River.
Scallops are know to have up to 200 eyes along the edges of their shells. Creepy but kind of amazing as well. :)

A special treat today on our way back from today's dive. A group of four Bigg's Killer Whales celebrating a feast (we suspect from the the bird activity) near a known harbour seal haul out. Just south of Steep Island in Discovery Passage near April Point Lodge (seen in the background).
NOTE: Shot with an iPhone 15 using zoom so we were able to stay well back (400m) from these whales while they do what whales do best, enjoy their life undisturbed.
