I have always felt a calling to share the love of dance with others. There have been days where I've felt resistant, but ultimately, when I show up (which is always), I instantly feel better.
When we are moved by music, we move. When we are overcome with joy, we move. Humans dance at times of heightened happiness. Moving to music will always release endorphins that will bring you joy.
One week into Covid I hit one of the lowest points of my life. I had been diagnosed with an illness that was infringing on my ability to dance, I was unable to see my students and felt utterly alone.
When you are a technically trained dancer, the ultimate goal is performance career. All or nothing. So, what happens when uncontrollable circumstances take that away? It seems as though something you've identified as is stolen.
Prior to Covid I had focused on sharing love with students, making sure they felt appreciated and cared for. The mental health of humans during and after Covid is going to be a major concern.
What I have realized is that the way to move through a lot of these feelings is by movement connected to music. Allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, connected and moved brings feelings of elation simply by releasing endorphins...
What is your favorite song to move to?
