Bindu’s Inspiring Story
“When I moved to Canada, I joined cricket just for fun. I never imagined how it would change my life. Back then, I thought cricket was a men’s game. But when I discovered Calgary had a women’s team, something clicked. I joined for fitness but found so much more: a passion, a sisterhood, and a version of myself I didn’t know existed.
For the first time, I understood what “me time” truly meant—not just solitude but growth. The unwavering support of my family and friends was truly enlightening. Their belief in me transformed into my own confidence. I learned there is no age limit for learning, and self-respect must be earned, built one brave step at a time.
As I fell deeper in love with the game, I volunteered, learned, and saw cricket from every angle. Then came the biggest challenge: umpiring—a space dominated by men, where few women dared to step. But I thought, if they can do it, why can’t I? So, I took the course, stood on the field, and held my own. Now, when I co-umpire alongside men, pride isn’t just in the role; it’s in proving that barriers are meant to be broken.
Cricket didn’t just teach me rules; it reshaped my soul. It showed me that transformation is possible at any stage and that the question of how do I do better? is the most powerful one we can ask.
“I fell in love with cricket as a player. But as an umpire, I found my voice.”
