Bujinkan Tenchijin Dojo YYC

Bujinkan Tenchijin Dojo YYC With an emphasis on basics, continuously improve our martial skills by maintaining a student first attitude. No egos. No pressure.

A positive place for humble, responsible and sincere martial arts students to study Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. I’m not a soldier, police officer, or security professional. I’m simply someone who’s been fortunate enough to study Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu under some of the most skilled and generous teachers in the world. Over 30+ years of training, I’ve had several opportunities to train directly with Hat

sumi Sensei in Japan, and have learned extensively from senior instructors like Bill Atkins and Abi Allen, whose guidance shaped not just how I move—but how I teach. My approach is about helping people move better, stay safe, and build confidence at any age or fitness level. Whether you’re starting from scratch or returning after time away, training should feel challenging—but never intimidating. Just clear instruction, smart movement, and steady progress.

The Sacred Relationship Between Tori and Uke:

In classical Japanese budō, the relationship between Tori and Uke is more important than any single technique.

As Hatsumi Masaaki Sōke has reminded us through his writings and teachings, budō does not live in form alone. Technique without feeling is empty—and that feeling only appears between two people.

Uke is not a victim.
Uke offers sincerity: correct distance, real intent, honest attack.
In doing so, Uke places trust in Tori.

Because of that trust, Tori carries responsibility.

Not to dominate or show strength—but to demonstrate understanding, control, and compassion. True skill is soft, natural, and protects life.

This is why training partners polish each other.

Roles change. Ego fades. Budō grows.

Every bow on the mat is an acknowledgment of this trust.
When Tori and Uke train with respect and awareness, the art remains alive.

This is why the relationship is sacred.

Budo Is a Lifelong Journey

Bujinkan training is designed to evolve with you.

Young or old.

Fast or slow.

Beginner or advanced.

The art adapts—because you adapt.

As Sōke has shown through his life’s work, budo is not something you finish. It is something you continue to explore.

Train today so you can move well tomorrow.

A Dojo Is a Community

A dojo is not a gym, it is a place of mutual respect and shared learning.

We bow not out of ritual, but out of gratitude:

To our teachers
To our training partners
To the generations who preserved this art

As Hatsumi Sōke teaches, true strength is found in harmony, not domination.

Join a community that trains seriously, without ego.

Budo Begins in the Mind.

Physical technique is only one layer of training.

In Hatsumi Sōke’s writings, he often emphasizes that fear, ego, and impatience are greater opponents than any person.

At Tenchijin Dojo YYC, training develops:

Mental calm under stress
Spatial awareness
Respect and humility
Confidence without arrogance

These lessons extend far beyond the mat.

Why Traditional Training Still Matters.

Old Traditions, Living Art.

Our training comes from centuries-old Japanese martial traditions, but it is not frozen in the past.

The teachings passed down through Hatsumi Sōke emphasize adaptability in modern life:

✔ Awareness under pressure
✔ Calm decision-making
✔ Natural body movement
✔ Protection without aggression

This is not sport fighting.
This is budo for real life.

Beginners Welcome: Everyone Starts as a Beginner.

In the Bujinkan, rank is not the goal, learning is.

Hatsumi Sōke reminds us that comparison creates tension. Instead, we focus on personal growth, correct feeling, and honest practice.

You don’t need to be strong.
You don’t need experience.
You just need an open mind and a willingness to learn.

Come train at your own pace in a supportive, traditional dojo environment.

What We Practice: Budo Is Not About Strength.

At Bujinkan Tenchijin Dojo YYC, we train more than techniques—we cultivate awareness, balance, and adaptability.

As Hatsumi Sōke teaches, true budo is about feeling rather than force. Strength fades, speed slows, but understanding grows with time.

Whether you are new to martial arts or returning after years away, our dojo welcomes those who wish to study movement that works with nature, not against it.

🌸 Spring Training Message 🌸

Spring is a season of renewal, on the mat as, much as in life.
Don’t wait for the perfect time to begin or return to your training.
In budō, progress comes from showing up, moving forward, and polishing the basic fundamentals, one class at a time.
Renew your body.
Renew your mindset.
Step onto the mat and train now.

“The future lies in knowing your own weaknesses.” ~ Masaaki Hatsumi

Not what you’re good at.
Not what feels natural.

What breaks.
What fails.
What you avoid.

That’s where your training lives.

Train there.
