Forward Folds Part 2! 🧘

We see so many people bend their knees in a forward fold to reach the floor, but in reality, it causes you to miss most of the benefits for your posterior chain.

So be technical: keep your legs straight, engage your quads and hip flexors, and let your hamstrings, glutes, calves, and low back lengthen.

Check out Part 1 for details on proper forward fold alignment if you missed it!

Forward folds aren’t about forcing flexibility; they’re about reciprocal inhibition. When you actively engage the front of your body, the back body is signaled to release and lengthen!

Be Technical:
Base: Feet hip-width apart, second toes pointing straight forward.
Engage: Activate quads & pull the kneecaps upward.
Initiate: Hinge from the hip flexors, not the lower back.
Release: Relax the neck completely.
Breathe: Inhale to lengthen the spine, Exhale to fold deeper.

Stay tuned for part 2 on the biggest mistake people make with their forward folds.

There’s a common misconception that yoga is inherently feminine, or that it’s a practice just for women.

Yoga is built for anyone with a body. And if you are a man training hard, wanting to perform better, or just getting through daily life, your body needs it.

A stressed body has high cortisol levels and overworked adrenals. High cortisol levels physically suppress your body's ability to produce testosterone and recover efficiently. Science shows that regular functional movement and controlled breathing systematically lower those stress hormones, clearing the path for your natural hormone levels to optimize, your sleep to improve, and your body to maximize repair.

At EASE, we are performance-focused. No nonsense - just real, functional mobility designed to protect your joint health, prevent injuries, and build core stability. We actually have a very even split of men and women in our classes so you won't be the only guy in the room.
It might feel intimidating to walk through the door for the first time, but all you have to do is show up and do it.

Why do we think we already need to have mobility
before we try yoga?

Mobility and focus aren’t prerequisites. They are the result of consistency, effort, and a willingness to show up and keep improving.

You show up to build the skill, not because you've already mastered it.

It is truly never too late to start. ā™„ļø

To all the pregnant mamas out there with sore legs…

These two "legs up the wall" variations are utter bliss whenever you have swollen ankles, heavy legs, or just need a passive posture to relieve stress!

While you're here, take the opportunity to work on breathing into your pelvic floor to gain more control, balance, and coordination of the muscles with the breath.

✨ Inhale: Release and expand the pelvic floor muscles.
✨ Exhale: Gently engage them, pulling them up and in.

If your lower back or hips are feeling sore, use a folded blanket or a bolster under your hips to elevate them.

āš ļø A Gentle Reminder: As blissful as it feels to lay flat on your back, make sure you aren’t there for too long without elevating your hips or sitting up. We want to keep that circulation flowing and avoid putting pressure on the inferior vena cava!

The strongest practice is built on the simplest foundations.

Growing a human is hard work, and your body undergoes an incredible amount of change throughout!

Taking a few minutes out of your day to practice a simple standing posture (Tadasana) can make a world of difference for your back, joints, and overall health. So practice this often, and keep these few pointers in mind:

🌻 Feet hip-width apart (or wider to accommodate expanding hips later in pregnancy!)
🌷Tailbone tucked down and forward
🌺 Shoulders stacked over hips, shoulder blades drawing together and down the spine
🪷 Chin tucked toward neck to lengthen the back of the neck

Use this as a chance to ground yourself, notice how your body shifts day to day and enjoy a little moment of peace while you're at it!

You’re doing an incredible job, mama. Take care of yourself today. ā™„ļø
