An NHL goaltender stands between his team and defeat. Every mistake is on the scoreboard. Thousands of people watching. Millions more at home.

Braden Holtby — 2018 Stanley Cup champion — had a secret weapon between whistles.

He would sq**rt a stream of water into the air. Find one specific drop. And watch it fall onto the ice.

That's it. That was the move.

Not a motivational speech. Not a pep talk. Not thinking about the next play. One drop of water. Full attention. Back to the present.

If the highest-pressure position in one of the most intense sports on earth can be managed by returning to the moment — what's stopping you from doing the same between points?

Find your drop of water. Watch it fall.

Most players think their mental problems are complex.

They're not.

Every single one of them — anger, fear, guilt, nerves, boredom, pressure — has the same root cause.

You left the present moment. And you believed the thoughts you found there.

The cure is not complicated.

Between every point: come back. Find one thing real. The feathers spinning. Your breath. A drop of water falling.

Do that — and the thoughts lose their grip.

Simple is not the same as easy. But it is the truth.

How you treat a beginner on the court tells me everything about who you are off it.

Not how you treat the top seed. Not how you act when the coach is watching.

How you treat the person who just picked up a racquet for the first time.

Because the gap between how you treat the best player in the room and the worst player in the room — that gap is the exact size of your ego.

Sport is a mirror. The favoritism you show based on skill level is the same favoritism you show based on status, wealth, and reputation in the rest of your life.

This is your character being revealed. Not your talent. Your character.

The humble champion knows it is only the ego that enjoys the fame. The proud champion doesn't know that yet.

Which one are you becoming?
