Meet Miss Veronica!

If you want to make Miss Veronica ridiculously happy, tell her one of her plants has a new leaf. A self-described plant lover, sourdough baker and perpetual maker-of-things, Veronica is happiest when she has something creative on the go, preferably with some good music playing in the background.

Her perfect day involves baking sourdough, listening to music and working on a craft, and she will always appreciate a good old-fashioned dad joke. Add some sunshine, coffee on a Saturday morning and maybe a Diet Coke or ice cream, and things are looking pretty great.

That sense of curiosity and creativity follows Veronica right into the dance studio. She describes her teaching style as playful, experimental and collaborative. She plans her classes in advance but loves being able to follow an unexpected idea when inspiration - or her dancers - takes things in a different direction.

One of her favourite things to teach is the progression from marching to skipping. It may seem like a simple childhood skill, but Veronica loves watching all the pieces of coordination gradually come together until suddenly there it is: that little light bulb moment when a child realizes, “I can do it!”

Perhaps that's especially meaningful because Veronica remembers being the shy dancer in class herself & always eager to learn something new. Today, some of her favourite parts of teaching are choreography, mentoring students and watching her dancers grow in both ability and confidence.

Her students would probably recognize her silliness, along with plenty of “One more time!” and “Does that make sense?”... but underneath it all is a teacher who is genuine, passionate and genuinely excited to grow alongside the children she teaches.

Plants, sourdough, sunshine, creativity and a whole lot of “one more time!” We’re so lucky to have Miss Veronica bringing her playful spirit to ESD for another year!

Introducing... Miss Kaitlyn!

If you know her, you know there is very little mystery around what gets her ridiculously excited: everything and anything DANCE!!!! Cheerful, enthusiastic and energetic, Kaitlyn brings a whole lot of “SLAYYYY” into the studio - usually accompanied by her pink Stanley and, very specifically, an Orange Kiss Alani.

As a dancer, Kaitlyn was a self described perfectionist. She took every class she could, participated in every routine possible and gave absolutely everything 110%. But here’s something her students might not know: she didn't actually begin competing in dance until she was 12! Before that, she was involved in gymnastics and competitive cheer alongside recreational dance.

That love of learning has definitely stuck around. Kaitlyn is a planner through and through, loves reading and doing logic puzzles for fun, and casually dropped into her answers that she earned 99% in university calculus. When she's not teaching, you'll likely find her walking, bike riding, doing hot yoga, reading or cat sitting. Her ideal day involves a long morning walk, a coffee shop, brunch, an afternoon nap and yoga at sunset. Honestly... that sounds pretty great...

In the studio, Kaitlyn loves choreography and technique training, but one of her favourite things to teach is surprisingly simple: walking pas de bourrées. She loves watching a step that initially sounds intimidating to a young dancer suddenly click, and then showing them all the ways that one simple step can grow into something more.

And that really sums up what Kaitlyn loves most about teaching. It isn't just about the steps. It's seeing her students grow in their skills, watching their confidence build and knowing she gets to make a positive impact along the way. Of course, sometimes growth also looks like a student asking, “Miss Kaitlyn, we’re going to do the pirouette into a centre split, right?”

“Obviously.” LOL

Inspiring, motivating, encouraging, and always ready to SLAYYYY... We're so happy to have Miss Kaitlyn sharing her enormous love of dance with our dancers for another incredible year! We are so glad she's part of our team!

Meet Miss Kyla!

If you hear “Ok, my chickens!” coming from a studio, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve found Miss Kyla. Equal parts silly, funny and experienced enough to have approximately a million years of class plans stored in her head, Kyla is always prepared - and equally ready to throw the plan out the window and pivot when the dancers in front of her need something different.

Her students know the important things: she LOVES triplets (high-high-low with exploding star hands for the littles, true Modern triplets for everyone else), her Modern dancers know the infamous “prances” song, and Miss Kyla ALWAYS knows the counts.

What they may not know is that she doesn't actually live at the studio (apparently, this comes as a genuine surprise to some of her youngest dancers)! When she isn't at the studio, there is a lot of mom-ing happening, along with organizing our INSPIRE Junior Dance Educator Program. She describes herself outside the studio simply as “wife, mama, bruh,” carries a day planner she writes in constantly but rarely looks back at, and considers herself a bit of a kid whisperer. We’re inclined to agree.

Her perfect day is a hike in the mountains with her family, followed by a dinner she doesn't have to cook and a glass of w**e. Coffee is non negotiable on teaching days, Greece is on the bucket list, and seeing pretty much any child under four will instantly make her day better. "You Make My Dreams Come True" by Hall & Oates will always get her dancing ... it was her wedding song, after all.

The thing that matters most to Miss Kyla as a teacher is very simple: making every student feel special and seen. Whether she’s teaching a tiny dancer, mentoring one of our young educators through INSPIRE, or working with students who have been dancing for years, that relationship comes first. Watching a student discover their confidence is still one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.

After all these years, all those class plans later, what remains at the heart of Miss Kyla’s classroom? Every student matters!
