⚠NO STOPPING ZONE IN EFFECT ⚠(bear jams)

Parks Canada has implemented a 1.5km no stopping zone along the Bow Valley Parkway between Baker Creek Chalets and Protection Mountain Campground.

Parks Canada has received and responded to several documented reports of bear jams, unsafe parking and people leaving their vehicles to approach the bears in this area.

🐾 Crowding bears along the roadside and actively pursuing them causes bears stress and may result in them avoiding critical food sources and habitat. In this specific instance, crowds of people can block escape routes for the bears trying to avoid oncoming trains.

Popular Banff hike still closed to visitors one year after deadly incident.
A rockfall near Bow Glacier Falls killed two hikers in June 2025. Almost a year later, the area is still closed - and Parks Canada still has no timeline for reopening.
The closure has been in place since June 19, 2025, while a geotechnical assessment works out whether the slope is safe to return to. That assessment is ongoing, with no end date announced.
Parks Canada says no one has been caught violating the closure order so far. Those who do could face arrest or fines of up to $25,000 - which, given the circumstances, seems like the least of the reasons not to go.

⚠️ Please be advised that a section of the Spray Lakes Road, also known as Highway 742 and Smith-Dorrien Highway, on the Canmore Hill in Kananaskis is closed due to a rockslide. The closure extends from the Grassi Lakes Parking lot to the Goat Creek Day Use Area.

Crews are on scene, and we will update this post when the road has reopened.

The Plain of the Six Glaciers, Lake Agnes and the Beehive are all off limits this weekend, because there is still a serious load of snow sitting up high and heat and rain are exactly what set it moving.

If your plan was a teahouse walk and a scone with a view, that is the part that has to wait a little longer.
