Happy Saturday folks. Chances are that you're probably still sleeping in when you read this and it'll be late afternoon by the time you read this. Well, I hope you have an awesome fun-filled weekend and hopefully you won't encounter the dreaded mid-day energy crash. It's funny that on some days, I'll sleep in only to find myself wanting a nap later on in the afternoon.
The fact is that most of us try to recover our sleep debt on the weekends only to be shooting ourselves in the foot in terms of how much energy we have. The thing is, we are creatures of habit and our sleep schedule is generally dictated by our circadian rhythm. What this means is that our energy will be dictated by light cycles (day and night). All these factors will ultimately affect our sleep which in turn, affects our energy. Have trouble sleeping or falling asleep? Feeling low energy? If you're wondering how to combat low energy levels here are some tips around sleeping and feeling like a boss.
Sleep Hygiene 101
1. Consistently go to bed and wake up at around the same time every day.
Toms tips -Try one day at a time if this is cutting into your social life. For example, let Saturdays be your stay up late day.
2. Sleep in a cool dark place.
Toms tips: Buy sleep mask that's breathable - typically ones that are made of synthetic materials will be less hot tho
I question how environmentally friendly they are to produce.
3. Reduce the amount of light exposure bed.
Toms tips: Dim the lights, schedule blue light timers on the phone and get some blackout blinds.
4. Exercise!
Exercise will increase our desire to sleep. I recommend lifting heavy compound movements 2-5 x a week and cardiovascular 2-5 x a week. Everyone has very personal goals so if you're not sure how to proceed, talk fire me a message!
Toms Tips: Try not to do anything too vigorous a couple hours before bed.
