What does your local outdoor scene mean for you and your community?
Gratitude.
My name is Chris, owner, and operator of Devil’s Head Coffee. I’ve lived in Calgary since 2001 and have been a very active user of the trail network in Kananaskis since this time. Rock and ice climbing introduced me to this area but as I grew older and now have a wonderful family, We’ve gravitated towards biking. Now we bike 2-3 days a week, even after work mid week in the dark, year round. This amazing trail network at Moose Mountain has become our go-to place to suffer on the climbs for fitness, downhill for skill development and type 1 fun, scare ourselves a little bit and to socialize with amazing friends.
Moose has a huge network managed under MMBTS – Moose Mountain Bike Trail Society. Lots of volunteer hours, 3 new climbing trails, maintenance of legacy features on existing trails and so much more, all within the last couple of years. Note some stats in a pervious IG post.
We will be out on Aug. 29th to get on the pointy end of a shovel, help out for the day and will be bringing our small mobile café to offer up caffeinated go go juice to the folks who make this magic happen for all of Calgary.
Next time you are out in the area, stop and take a moment to imagine how much work this actually is to keep such a world class network alive and well, a 35 min drive from our home.
Just unreal.
