Grief can feel like you are caught between the past and the future.

After the loss of my late wife, I found myself constantly flipping between these two spaces, unable to live in the moment.

I understand the struggle men endure after a loss, and I also understand how men (including me) can be dumb asses, feeling like they have to be strong and get through one of the hardest times of their life all by themselves!

As a coach, I support men through their grief journey by providing a safe space to open up, find balance, and a path forward that is unique to them.

If this sounds like you or someone you know, please reach out to me for a free consultation.

Such a simple approach to having a conversation!

✅ Be curious

✅ Ask open-ended questions

✅ Pay attention to body language

✅ Ask clarifying questions

✅ Paraphrase your understanding

Once you've got it, and the other acknowledges your understanding, it's your turn to be understood!

Taking this approach builds trust, safety and mutual respect.

What are some other benefits to Covey's Habit 5, "seek first to understand, then to be understood?"

I’ve been called a nerd most of my life, but you know what? Being a nerd is f*cking awesome!

Here I am…..

I’m a beer drinking, potty-mouthed, huge Lord of the Rings fan (Gandalf rocks🤘), dungeon and dragons playing, spreadsheet guru, and lover of all things outdoors; including astronomy, skiing, disc golf (NOT frisbee golf – don’t even get me started), camping, hiking, fishing, scuba diving, and climbing trees, of course. Don’t worry, if I accidentally break a limb, I always apologize and give the tree hug (trees have feeling to you know!).

I am full of interesting facts, or as most of my friends say, 'useless information,' that I enjoy sharing.

Pink Floyd is my favourite band; alt-rock is my go-to genre. Hell, I’ll listen to pretty much anything except country – that’s devil music 🤣.

You can find me at the gym or going for a run several times a week. Physical fitness, which supports my mental health, is extremely important to me; gotta burn off all those tasty IPA’s.

- That's me in a nutshell -

Whew, that was scary!

Sharing who you are and what you like takes kahunas, but if you can’t be your authentic self, who are you? It takes WAY more effort to be someone else, just ask Wilson, he had to play a best friend, when all that he really wanted, was to be a volleyball – I can’t imagine the pressure to maintain the shape of his lies 😉!

Being a Coach allows me to support others to be their authentic selves. Some of the amazing benefits of this is increased confidence, self-awareness, optimism, and the drive to achieve your dreams. If you need support, and think to yourself, “I need a nerdy coach with an accounting background, and sense of humour,” I'm your man. I am always happy to sit and chat over a beer, or in an online meeting (ugh, that’s so 2021).

After a recent post, a complete stranger commented with such compassion that my kindness bucket was overflowing; he made my day!

This random act of kindness got me thinking about how these small gestures can improve someone’s day. I believe the impact can be anywhere from putting a smile on someone’s face to a life changing shift out of darkness. Whatever the impact is, it will most likely have a positive impact on both the receiver and giver.

These acts of kindness don’t have to be grand gesture’s; the small things go a long way:

✅ Holding a door open

✅ Picking up something dropped

✅ Giving a compliment

✅ Thanking someone for their service

✅ Smiling

What are some ways you’ve received or shown kindness to strangers?

Taking a couple minutes at the end of each day to recognize the acts of kindness that others gave you, and that you provided to others will go a long way to ensure your kindness bucket is full and make the world a better place!

I’ve always considered myself a positive person, losing someone that I loved to cancer challenged that!

Finding silver linings and turning a negative into a positive has come easy to me my whole life, until my late wife lost her battle with cancer. Where was the silver lining in this? What good could come from such a tragic loss?

Over time, as the waves of grief shrank from a tsunami, down to a monster that surfer’s flock too, I slowly started to feel the sand beneath the waves. I realized that moving with the wave was easier than battling it.

Feeling the feels, riding the waves so to say, forced me to evaluate my whole life and really consider what was most important to me and why. For me, that was happiness and being of service to others.

It’s been two and half years since Chrissy has passed. I’m not the same person as before, I’m stronger, more authentic, and resilient. I no longer fear being who I am and taking risks – all positive!

I wouldn’t call this a silver lining, but I am grateful for how this loss has made me a better person and has strengthened my positivity. A final gift from Chrissy Pye ❤️.

Happiness is a choice - for me, I get happiness when I'm doing something I love and standing by my values!

Two things I love are the book, The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, and disc golf. If you've read The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, you will know that the answer to life the universe and everything is "42." This picture was taken at Go Organic Sports Ranch in beautiful British Columbia, and I just so happened to get an Ace on the 42nd target....this was a happy moment for me, and is a happy memory.

Happiness is not something you should expect or feel entitled to, you choose to be happy. For me, I choose to do the things that make me happy, like disc golf, going to the gym, having a beer with some friends, serving others. You don't need to be happy all the time, life can be hard and sh*tty things happen, but when you are down, and you are self aware enough to recognize that, make a choice and choose happiness!

What makes you happy? How do you choose happiness when you're down?
